Ah, doesn't help when I got a message half way through.
I put it in another port, and it said "New Software Detected" so it automatically installed itself, I dunno that bit confused me..it didn't re-install itself though. Anyway, I tried again and didn't work. Now my Internet connection is dropping in and out, my computer is just going stupid. I think there could be some sort of virus in it, I keep getting alerts about it then try to run scans and stuff to see if anything is in it, and nothing comes up. I think its the same thing everytime too.

Sounds like your computer is infected...
If you dont have Norton SystemWorks installed, then try using the Windows System File Checker by going into the Command Prompt (Start, Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt), and then type in without quotes "sfc /scannow" and then hit enter. It will scan your system for any protected files which have been altered. You can then choose to reinstall those files off the Windows XP CD. |

Hook up the Line Out on the VAmp to a Line In or Microphone port on your PC. Go to the Start Menu, click "Run" and enter "sndvol32" and press enter. You'll see the Windows mixer. Depending on the version of Windows you're using, go to the "Options" menu, select "Properties", select the "Recording" option, make sure all of the items below are checked (unless you know exactly what you're doing) and click "OK". You'll be back at the mixer window with a whole bunch of sliders and checkboxes. Slide them all up to the top for full volume. You should hear whatever comes out of your VAmp coming out of your PC speakers now. If not, stop here and post again. Look for something named "Microphone", "Line In", "Line/Aux" or similar. Play a note and try sliding the corresponding dial up and down- whichever one changes the volume of the sound coming out of your speakers is the input you're after. For example, with mine it's the "Line In 2/Aux 2" channel. Make sure the checkbox under that slider is ticked so that's the signal which will be sent to any programs requesting audio input through the Windows mixer. Now you should be able to record in pretty much most programs. Again, if it doesn't work stop here and post again. Quote:

Just going back to virus scanners for a minute, for those of you like me who don't want to pay for virus protection on your home computer, there are several freebies out there that you can use.
I personally use AVG as my resident (i.e. always running) scanner. Resident means that whenever you open a file or make changes to it, etc, the virus scanner will quickly scan that file to make sure that it isn't infected. It can be downloaded from http://free.grisoft.com and will check for updates daily. It has also saved me several times ![]() If you don't feel like installing the above and only want to do a once off scan, you can run scans directly through your browser. Two you might like to check out are Trend Micro's Housecall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/) or Panda Software's ActiveScan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/). These can be very dependant on your browser, so if you are having problems with them you should probably try another browser. There are a lot of other freebies out there. Some are better than others, so be careful what you choose. A good indicator is to search for reviews through Google or some other search engine. If you are interested in securing your computer, you may also want to look for a good anti spyware / malware / adware, etc scanner along with a firewall. Also be aware that every time you add one of these scanners to your computer, it will permanently slow you down a tad unless you uninstall/disable the real time scanner (some are better than others). It really is a bit of a balancing act (i.e. don't go crazy installying everything you can get your hands on - the age old Security vs. Performance vs. Functionality problem ). Only install what you think you need! Also, adding a firewall on your computer can stop network based things (i.e. multiplayer games) from working depending on how well the thing is written. Some will automatically adjust for your games, others will ask if you want to allow the game to able to communicate, and others will just sit there looking stupid waiting for you to figure out that its the firewall thats stopping your game from working and making you manually configure it.
