Ozric Tentacles (psychedelic trip-rock?)
http://www.myspace.com/ozrictentacles
The songs on their myspace dont do them justice. I just got Pyramidion and Its some brilliant stuff. Relaxing and very far out there. Parts of their songs remind me of the psychedelic days of Porcupine Tree even.
Anyone heard of em...love em'?

Damn I HATE correcting people on this.
PSYCHEDELIC AND PROGRESSIVE ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS! PROGRESSIVE IS TRIPPY AND STUFF LIKE TMV AND PINK FLOYD. Psychedelic is like a louder and more upbeat version of Blues, like some of Cream and a lot of Hendrix.
I just get so tired of reading this everywhere.
"Pink Floyd is so Psychedelic"
If you want some Psychedelic here are some bands for you.
Cream
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
The Grateful Dead
Iron Butterfly
If you want Progressive or Experimental
The Mars Volta
Pink Floyd
At The Drive-In
I know the meaning of the word Psychedelic is drug induced but that doesn't mean its the trippy music. Psychedelic started with Hippies and as you hopefully know a lot of Hippies did drugs which is where Psychedelic came from as a music style.

Don't be so "absolute". There is tons of progressive rock/metal music that is not trippy (actually most of it is not "trippy"). Also, although the word "psychedelic" was indeed started to describe bands like Jefferon Airplane, The 13th Floor Elevators or Love (more than bands like The Jimie Hendrix Experience), i can't find why it should not be used to describe bands like Ozric Tentacles whose music gives you that feeling of being "trippy" and basically gathers all elements of "psychedelia". It is not "psychedelic rock" (the musical subgenre) but it has tons of psychedelia within it, if you get what i mean. Also at least Pink Floyd's debut, can be easily considered to be psychedelic rock.
On topic: I love Ozric Tentacles, especially "Erpland" and "Strangeitude", but all (and i mean ALL) their albums deserve at least some serious listening. They are a quite awesome band on stage too, i have seen them 3-4 times and everytime i want the concert to go on forever.

I know the difference between Psychedelic and Progressive...I categorized Ozric that way because they are hard to classify and are basically just a "jam band". Lighten up brother and within your whole rant you didnt even chime in to give your thoughts on Ozric Tentacles.
IoftheStorm you are lucky to have seen them live. I got the same feeling with Porcupine Tree...you dont want the show to end.
So how was their stage presence, light show, etc?

The light show (here at least) was never huge, but that's mainly because of the venue that they usually played here. As for the stage presence, that was static, except Jon of course who was walking all over the stage, dancing in the rhythm of each song, but still they were always enjoying that they were doing (especially Seaweed).

I meant by saying it was trippy it would be Prog or Experimental, I know a lot of Prog isn't trippy. Like Emerson, Lake, & Palmer.
But I was so annoyed because I've seen the same mistake thousands of times on the internet. That's why I ranted the way I did.
And Ozric is Ok.
I prefer The Mars Volta.

These two songs will blow Mars Volta out of the water:
off of the Live album Pyramidion:
3. Pixel Dream (Live) (9:18)
4. Arumanu (Live) (12:12)
just try these 2^ songs out...parts sound like Joe Satriani on a strong hit of LSD.
(or PM me and Ill give you the link)

Well OT and TMV are very different bands so they can't be compared anyway.

I like Ozric Tentacles. I've got a double cd I picked up in England with a bunch of old stuff only released on cassette on it, as well as stuff up to about 92. I wish I'd seen them live, their appearances at outdoor parties around England are legendary. They are MOST DEFINITELY a psychedelic band. Feathers & Flames, who put you in charge of what is and what isn't psychedelic music?
