Bahahahahahaha.
Ad hominem attacks just show that you have nothing substantial to say against me.
So what set you off, was it the fact that "Yes The River Knows," "The End," and "Fistful of Steel" are oh so upbeat? Or was it my OPINION regarding indie music? If you don't consider Neutral Milk Hotel upbeat then so be it, but I trust you're aware of the fact that it's an opinion.

It is the fact that you are spewing random shit that you do not really understand, mainly on how rock can be "dark" or not. Neutral Milk Hotel is not flamboyant, just strange and eccentric. The indie tag only relates to sound as something different than mainstream rock. Interpol would be indie rock, because they are much different from a normal rock band. To go more into detail than you would call Interpol a post-punk band, which describes their specific sound. They are also very fucking dark. Compare this to another indie rock band like Spoon who are on the same level of popularity and are much more upbeat. So indie rock is not all flowers and bright colors. It is like saying all metal is extreme, when you can tell the difference between Iron Maiden and Slayer. You sir are mindless on rock music.

Hahahaha... sweet. Yeah. You didn't even read my post.
I never said indie wasn't dark. I didn't imply or suggest that indie wasn't dark. What I did was ask you for reccomendations on dark indie bands. If I'm asking you to reccomend them, and I expect any response, then clearly I believe there are dark indie bands. Did you not see the part of the post where I was asking for recs?
Mindless on rock music? Bahahahaha... Dude, I didn't insult indie at all. Closest I came was when I said that NMH was the only one I liked, which is true. They're far from the only one I'd consider extremely talented, but yes they're the only one so far that I listen to. Of course, I KNOW that there are others out there I'll love. Hence asking for recs.
I didn't say all indie was flowers. I said that I've heard a lot of flower bands, and that is certainly true. I've thought a lot of them were very impressive musically, but they weren't what I'm looking for at this time.
Also I am the one arguing that rock music can be dark, I'm not the one saying all rock is this or all indie is that.
peace
The one guy so far in this thread who was supporting your idea that more of us should listen to indie , and you jump on me.

I think everyone needs to listen to something, anything with Sammy Hagar and lighten the fuck up.
hahahahahahahaha
STK - The Doors were called head music or perhaps acid rock, I cant even remember anymore.... they were alot of things, most of which I dont like but the last thing they did was rock. ROCK, get what I mean, makes you want to rock, bum dadum dadum dadum... ROCK.
Been a long time since I rock and rolled
dadum.... dadum dadum
been a long time since I did the stroll
dadum... dadum dadum
Nugent, ZZtop, Buddy Holly... ect. stuff that ROCKS, its a groove its a tempo, its a upbeat mood, gonna do some dancin, boogie, gonna party have some fun, raise a little hell, it gets up and goes, it doesnt drag along and moan, it doesnt cry in the coffee, it doesnt drag you down. Granted everything or rather every band got thrown is the catagory as "rock bands" but they all didnt rock, some did only on occasion, some ROCKED yet explored different moods, but when you use the term "I wanna rock", it means "I WANNA ROCK"
"went down to the road house and got myself some beerwors"
da din da din da din
doesnt imply ROCK, its too draggy, its too blaszay, its more like
"Im headed to the funeral parlor to pick myself a coffin"
not critisizing just trying to express the mood that is implied when someone says they want to ROCK.
Like Sammy said "Theres only one way to ROCK" and his purpose to that song was point in fact, nothing he made up, its just the way its always been. ROCK means get up on your feet and get down to it.
Blue Oyster Cult "On your feet or ON... YOUR .... KNEEEES !" another statement about ROCK
The rest of the heady stuff and even the ballads were part of the "rock scene"... but they didnt ROCK

SOME of the Doors stuff might make peeps wanna rock, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that so much as even half of it is like that. Just because they're part of the rock scene doesn't mean that rock is upbeat. here's a difference between rock as a music genre and someone saying "let's rock" in a party sense. Certainly not all rock is upbeat. So to be honest I'm not sure what your point is.

Ah, he has a way with words, doesn't he? It's a typo, but still-first, At the Gates board his bus without paying a fare, and now this. Hmm...
Funny guy.

Even Doors hits like Light My Fire are dark. They're an extremely macabre band. Just listen to The End.

I agree on both counts, although I love both artists. I'd much rather listen to Tom Waits, Gordon Lightfoot, or Leonard Cohen over Dylan.
