If you haven't listened to Dark Suns yet, do so.

Thinking an Opeth fan would like 'em.

They're quite amazing. They're prog/doom, have released two albums, both of which are really excellent, yet different in style.

Swanlike, their debut is the more Opeth-ish one, having the occasional harsh vocals and blastbeats, most tastefully executed, of course. The harsh parts are mixed a bit too low for my tastes though, could be a bit louder and clearer, but it's still good.

Their second album, Existence, took a big step towards the prog direction - they dropped the harsh vocals, and turned to a truly unique dark prog band - think new/mid-era Katatonia combined with Pain of Salvation (they're apparently touring with Pain of Salvation, too). Long, calm songs with a surpisinly large amount of catchiness.

Yeah. If you haven't checked 'em out yet, do.

They have some quite lengthy samples of most of their songs on their homepage.

I saw them live, opening for Pain of Salvation.

Ok, it's really an Opet-ish sound. But that's all. There's really little variety in songs and... well, nothing so special.

Existence is of course way better than Swanlike.
Existence doesn't sound opethian at all. The songs are extremely different, but you can not judge the music only after listening to their music once.
It is in my opinion the best album in 2005 so far.

I have Existence on here but haven't listened to it really. Swanlike clearly manifests their Opeth influence, but like svish said above, there's little variety in the songs. I find myself only listening to the titletrack...I'll take a listen to Existence even though I think Pain of Salvation is a boring piece of shit.

Aye, Existence is very high in my favorite 2005 albums, and I like it quite a bit more than Swanlike. Very different, as well.

Hmmm, it is funny how this thread even has a mod post on it, yet my similar thread instantly disappears off the face of the earth.
