what do you guys think of Pete Townsend? I think he's a good lyricist.

I'm singing this note 'cause it fits in well
With the chords I'm playing
I can't pretend there's any meaning here
Or in the things I'm saying

But I'm in tune
Right in tune

Honestly, I think the lyrics here are genius. Absolutely brilliant!
And it's a good song as well...

Townsend is incredible. Any one who can write a song as beautiful as "Behind Blue Eyes" is practically beyong compare.

Here's selection and some reason for them.

Bob Dylan - for "Times They are a-Changing"

Nina Simone - for "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"

Pete Townsend - for "Behind Blue Eyes"

Roger Waters - for "Time"

Trent Reznor -for "Hurt"

It's not a top 5, 'cause I've missed out some people, people who's lyrics are important to music as a whole and people who are important to me, but these 5 would feature somewhere in any top 20.

hmm I've come to the conclusion that Lennon's 'across the universe' is the greatest psych-folk song in history

if anyone thinks the beatles were crappy lyricists, listen to that song
