Divided Sky - The Subtle Art of Failure (excellent band)
Has anyone heard of Divided Sky? These guys play a cool mix of Tool, A Perfect Circle, Meshuggah, The Mars Volta, Faith No More, Kings's X and what have you. Honestly, they do not sound like any of these bands in particular, but after spending about three months with this disc, I am convinced I can see some similarities, be it in their writing, performing or production.
They've got two discs, but I never heard their debut. The Subtle Art of Failure is their 2006 sophomore and it's a self-released record, recorded and mixed by the band themselves. I highly suggest you give them a listen. I reviewed their CD in detail if you're interested: http://www.seaoftranquility.org/revi...ontent&id=4063 Divided Sky is a great band that was formed in 1999, releasing their debut Spectral three years later. I have never heard that disc, but The Subtle Art of Failure, their new album, is simply astonishing. It should be pointed out right away, however, that it, like so many other underrated prog bands, takes a good many listens to fully impact the listener. You'll also find the links to the site here. Let me know if you check them out.

The songs on their official website are almost as uninspired as say the Secret Chiefs 3 or Estradasphere but at least those are musically pretty competent. This is just all different kinds of crappy styles put together.

Mind you I started enjoying the album a lot more after hearing it a good many times. At first, it seemed bland... but with each spin, the songs opened up and revealed themselves. I personally think this is a very strong album. Sorry you didn't enjoy what you heard.
