My "Epic" Playlist

So today I went through and created a "playlist of epic proportions" Maybe not an "epic" in the standard sense, but simply songs that are longer than normal (maybe not by Opeth's standards...) and really create a strong atmosphere and don't feel rushed. It seems like far too often artists feel the need to shorten songs down, when really playing that badass rift a few more times might have been better for the song. All of these I feel really take their time to say what they want to say, (so to speak) and are just very powerful songs in their own right.

I completely disagree - I actually find it the other way. Too many songs are forced to sound longer than they really should be. It takes skill to know when to stop writing a song.

You're arguing symptoms, not causes. The problem is that too many bands and songs are simply not good.

Definitely Rime of the Ancient Mariner... maybe even "Lochness"
by Priest. Not a great track, but still really long.

I'd also add "Bitches Brew" to that list, just for some variety.
27 minutes of free-form jazz... now that is epic (IMO).

The playlist is a bit shorter than the others on here and definitely not all-inclusive, but we actually play these songs in their entirety. The songs are:
