Definitely.
You only seem to make negative comments just for the sake of being negative so ya prolly. Regardless of what you say he's certain a great drummer. You're obviously no expert on the matter, but just for shits, and giggles who do you find to be "great." By the way here's a video of Gavin doing his thing since it seems like you've never seen or even heard him before. Last edited by BlueSky : August 11th, 2008 at 12:07 PM. |

Yep, you are.
Still, I guess it's nice to see someone has the gumption to go against all the gushing press by every major drumming publication, effusive praise by legends like Bill Bruford, two consecutive Modern Drummer poll wins and pretty much the entire progressive music listening world just for the sake of being critical. You GO, boy! ![]()

Just a couple of noteworthy review snippets on the much lauded Rhythmic Illusions book/cd: From Modern Drummer: "Gavin Harrison has written a veritable dissertation- and quite possibly the definitive document - on the infinite ways to manipulate rhythms and patterns on the drumset, and he has done so with a style and humour that will keep you fascinated to keep you learning more". ...."he shows ways to play basic beats that would amaze and confound the most advanced drummers in the world". "Rhythmic Illusions dispels the idea about old dogs and new tricks. Tricks? Here's ten thousand" From the great Bill Bruford: "He has managed to distil the essence of, and codified the laws of, what is generally considered the next big development in kit drumming". ....."the most interesting material since the invention of the paradiddle". Here's a link to Modern Drummer's artist profile and interview if you want to hear what they think about the guy. http://www.moderndrummer.com/updatef...vin%20Harrison Yeah, phil's right... "nothing great", indeed. ![]()

Now I didn't say that! lol Neil is pretty much the drum God in my book.
Definitely in the same league, though. Speaking of Neil, I'm listening to the mastered, drums-only track from "The Main Monkey Business" on his website as I'm typing this, very cool!
