R.I.P. little armoured dude."

yeah, i just have a bloodlust.. you know me so well.

for the record, i have only shot 4 animals in my life.... and they were all armadillos who were actively engaged in infesting and destroying my yard.

yes, and it's sooo sane to leave a disease-ridden infestation of hole-digging rodents in the yard that my elderly mother, who has osteoporosis and can't afford to take a fall, walks in.. the same yard that my nephews and nieces play in... yeah, that would be sane.

look, i've attempted to make a bit light of it because it does bother me to have to kill another creature... but unless you own a home and live in the countryside, you are not likely to understand... and i really don't care what you think to be honest, i posted this for somewhat therapeutic reasons.... to laugh at myself a bit, not to come under the judgement of someone who has no idea at all what it's like to live where i live, and to own a home which those little fuckers endanger by digging around the support pilings, and by leaving their diseased droppings everywhere.

and NO, there is no agency which will come out to where i live and do anything at all about the situation... our government does NOT consider it an animal control issue, they consider it a rodent infestation issue.

end of story.
My parents live in a countryside, fortunately we do not have armadillos, which i didn't know they were lepra carriers. We have just some inofensive hedgehogs and cats. Well, cats are not so inofensive, they carry many diseases, but anyway, I was not telling you that is wrong to kill an animal for a right cause or for a menace to your health. But I had the impression that you had enjoyed killing it just for the way it is told.

I'm happy to know you didn't.

"how is it morally wrong to enjoy killing living beings?"

Same point, just sounds a bit less moral, they way you put it of course it sounds jolly dandy

Sometimes you just have to kill animals...
that being said, animals kill each other all the time, and for a number of reasons. in the case of one animal killing another for good, their prey is usually still alive while being consumed. do you think the predator stops to mull over the plight of his prey? i seriously doubt it.

killing is a part of living. get over it.

This thread reminds me of the pages long debate that ensued when Obama swatted that fly on national TV. You guys can be a strange bunch .

Fact is the thing was a pest and had to be neutralized. I highly doubt James is sitting in a tree in his back yard, zeroing in on the fuckers when they pop their heads out of the yard, and enjoying every second of it.

Fortunately we don't get too many dangerous animals here in NJ...only the occasional racoon and possum. Those possums are nasty little beasts. Sharp ass teeth and whatnot.

If one of those came near my dogs, I'd have to shoot it rather than waiting for animal control.

A possum, you mean? Reminds me of the time my family and I were at a lake way back when, and our last dog swam out to inspect a passing swan, who was definitely NOT amused

Haha yup. My Corgis are tough little bitches, but if that damn possum actually attacked one, they would be fucked! My dad saw them squaring off outside.

Man that sounds hilarious...you think Rufus would confront one, or is he too much of a puss?

first... Glenn is a friend of mine and was only making a joke.

second, you clearly haven't read the whole thread before posting, because your last question was already answered, but i'll repeat it again:

NO, there is no agency which will come out to where i live and do anything at all about the situation... our government does NOT consider it an animal control issue, they consider it a rodent infestation issue. end of story.

get over yourself.... do you think an government agency or zoo would come to help you with a rat or mouse problem? well maybe they do that in Germany, but NOT here in the US... they are considered rodents, and are the responsibility of the home-owner to deal with... and any company that was hired would also destroy Armadillos, they would not "release them into the wild" or some shit... jesus tap-dancin' christ.

Haha, I freakin' love Corgis, they can be pretty feisty - and it was actually our previous golden, Leia (yes after Princess Leia, we got her when I was like 7 ), who had a lot more spunk to her (Rufus is indeed a complete puss ), but the thing was she was hardly in a position to do much of anything, doing the doggie paddle out in the middle of the lake with only her head and back showing out of the water; in comparison, the swan was looming over her and hissing like crazy, and she just kept following it inquisitively before finally coming back, quite a sight to see

Yeah but you can put humane traps in your back garden and take them down the road and release them. Sounds safer than running around your back yard with a loaded gun in darkness then having a corpse rotting in your nearby location.

So it can come back and dig more holes in his yard, and provide ample opportunity to endanger his family (for his reasons stated above), while possibly carrying LEPROSY?? C'mon now dude.

Lighten up, guys. Don't blow this out of proportion. I can totally understand where James is coming from.

Myself, I had a Jack Russel named "Vader" for yard-defense. The little bastard regularly killed birds, squirrels, & rabbits. Utterly fearless too.... he tried to take on a badger one day, but I had to put a stop to it before it got out of control.

One day, we had the entire family over for a barbecue. He trots up to my wife & drops a rabbit at her feet (a very clean broken-neck kill, I might add), and I swear he was thinking, "Hey, throw this on the grill for me, will ya?"

as i've already mentioned, trapping them is dangerous and NOT recommended.

second, even if you do, they just come back, or go on to infest someone else's property.. that's not being a good neighbor, and can in fact get me arrested.

third, it was my front yard (garden), and well lit with a very large and bright light that i put up on a 12 foot post... like a standard street light.

fourth, i'm very proficient with firearms, i have been shooting since i was a small child ( age 10 or 11), and held an held Expert Marksman rating when i was a teenager.

fifth, there's ALWAYS something dead and rotting near my house. i did mention i live in the countryside, yes? buzzards = nature's corpse disposal.

anyway i'm sure i mentioned he is entombed several feet in the ground.

finally, most of this was already mentioned.

Cute dog Glenn. We were looking into a Jack Russell, but apparently they can jump super high and it might have cleared our fence!
