Why exactly is Gers still in IRON MAIDEN?
I stole this from the other forum I attend, I think is funny to compare answers. So go ahead and let it go:

I won't read that thread because it's not on this forum. Here's my respeonse to your question. I think he's a good write off for tax purposes for the band. I think he must be secretly related to Rod Smallwood, Bruce or Harris... If it's not either of those two then I'm fucking clueless...

Probably easier than kicking him out for legal purposes.

Harris doesn't have the heart to kick him out... afterall he's been in the band longer than Smith

Also not going to read that other thread but I think that Harris really wants him in the band. It can be because he brings an element of visual entertainment to the show. I doubt it is because Harris, Murray or even Dickinson feels sorry for him because if Gers leaves Maiden, he will probably be snapped up by another high profile band, because lets face it, he is good at what he does.
Personally I have always been not a great fan of the three guitar sound noise menagerie of the last three Iron Maiden albums and for that matter was also not too fond of NPFTD and onwards. FOTD was a bit better than it's predecessor but nowhere near the classic Maiden offering such as Powerslave and SIT. The Rock in Rio DVD also sounds very busy compared to the LAD DVD. I like simplicity in my music.

He's there because he's buddies with all the other members and has years of history with them. You know, pretty much the same reason anyone's a member of any functional band in the first place. Band chemistry is not first grade math where you substract everyone you don't personally like and - presto - it's 1984 again. Especially since none of us know the Maiden guys on a personal level (except ElectricWiz ).
Also, why shouldn't he be in the band? He's written some great songs during his time in Maiden and I can't see getting rid of him would improve anything. In fact, what's there to improve? The band sells out stadiums around the globe and everyone seems happy. The fact that the existence of three guitars has not been utilized to the maximum (if at all) can hardly be blamed on Gers alone. After all it was the inclusion of Adrian that broke the solid guitar duo of Murray/Gers in 1999...

I've posted several comments/complaints about Janick over the last year or two. Nice guy, but damn, he's so sloppy! And the way he runs around is so wincingly horrible! Hell, because of his antics, he's even fallen off the stage....

My view is that Adrian and Dave need somebody to carry the guitars around

With the exception of Fear of the Dark (album), I'm not very big on the material he's played on since he joined Maiden.
