Top 20 for the 2000's?
I figured since it is damn near the end of the decade that I would post a list of some of my favorite albums from the 2000's IMHO it has been a great decade for metal and in all actually was better in many ways than the glorious 80's ... bear in mind if you asked me tommorow I would give you 20 different albums but here is my top 20 of the 00's!!!!
in no order
Kamelot - The Black Halo
Lefay - S.O.S.
Biomechanical - Empires of the World
Savatage - Poets and Madmen
Borknagar - Epic
Satyricon - Volcano
Into Eternity - Buried in Oblivion
Vanden Plas - Christ-O
Manowar - Warriors of the World
Overkill - Killbox 13
Dreamscape - End of Silence
Iced Earth - The Glorious Burden
Angra - Rebirth
Tad Morose - Modus Vivindi
Symphony X - The Odyssey
Testament - The Formations of Damnnation
Edguy - Rocket Ride
Twisted Into Form - Then Comes the Affliction to Awaken the Dreamer
Mercenary - 11 Dreams
Manticora - 8 Deadly Sins
now bear in mind when you tell me what albums I forgot or just didnt mention, there are many albums from this decade that I love ... a shitload that didnt make it to this list, But I wanted to keep it down to a reasonable number ... I could have done a top 100 again ;p So those are mine what are yours?

Some I haven't seen on other lists yet:
Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor
Celtic Frost - Monotheist
Gojira - From Mars to Sirius
Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon - The Crucible of Man
Iommi/Hughes - Fused
ISIS - Oceanic
Mastodon - Leviathan
Saxon - Lionheart
Enslaved - Vertebrae
And stuff I see on lists that I agree with:
Vanden Plas - Christ-O
Tool - Lateralus
Uriah Heep - Wake the Sleeper
Enslaved - Ruun - Isa
Candlemass - King of the Grey Island
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Just like the rest of you I'm forgetting a lot, and I purposely stayed away from a few newer titles that I think will hit the list, but still need to digest a little - Crack The Skye, Watershed, a few others...

Damn I started to pick albums I like form 2000 up to this day and only one per band and I'having 65 so far! So I have to trim some, and left really those who kicked me like a mule, which leads more or less to these lists:
Metal
Abandoned – “Thrash You”
Angel Dust – “Enlighten The Darkness”
Blind Guardian – “A Night At The Opera”
Candlemass – “Death Magic Doom”
Death Angel – The Art Of Dying”
Deep Purple – “Bananas”
Dream Evil – “Dragonslayer”
Halford – “Resurrection”
Helloween – “The Dark Ride”
Krux – “Krux”
Lacuna Coil – “Unleashed Memories”
Motorhead – “We Are Motorhead”
Rata Blanca – “La Llave De La Puerta Secreta”
Sabaton – “Primo Victoria”
Saxon – “Killing Ground”
Star One – “Live On Earth”
Steel Prophet – “Messiah”
Tyr – “Eric The Red”
Wolf - “Evil Star”
Wuthering Heights – “Far From The Madding Crowd”
Prog and rock
Ark – “Burn The Sun”
Ayreon – “The Human Equation”
Beyond The Labyrinth – “Signs”
Blackmore’s Night – “Fires At Midnight”
Derek Sherinian – “Mythology”
Gordian Knot – “Emergent”
Joe Satriani – “Super Colossal”
Ken Hensley - "Blood On The Highway"
Lana Lane – “Secrets Of Astrology”
LoNero – “Relentless”
Mastermind – “Angels Of The Apocalypse”
Planet X – “Moonbabies”
Presto Ballet – “The Lost Art Of Time Travel”
Rick Wakeman – “Out There”
Rondellus – “Sabbatum”
Scale The Summit – “Monument”
Sonus Umbra – “Snapshots From Limbo”
The Flower Kings – “Unfold The Future”
The Tangent – “The World That We Drive Through”
Waterclime – “The Astral Factor”
Shit I left a lot of good stuff out, I think 20 for such a long period (a decade) it's a tiny number.

Well you came close to me on some . I guess is very difficult along ten years (specially for prolific bands) to pick one album only and say its the best.
Still I like these type of threads to see how different people perceive the music during a defined range.

I have a small library and limited taste, most of what I have works well for me but to come up with a "best of" or even come up with 20 is a sad state of affairs... lol Of the lists those with (+) stand out more
SX -V (++), Odyssey (++), Paradise Lost
Threshold - Subsurface (+) and Dead Reckoning
Fates Warning - Disconnected (++)
DT - SDoIT, ToT, Oct., SC
Sammy Hagar - Not 4 Sale
Crack the Sky - Cut, not as good as the old stuff but has to do
Deep Purple - Rapture of the Deep
was into these as alternatives for quite a while
Shine Down - Leave a Wisper
Alter Bridge - ST
what did not work for me by my favorite bands are
Savatage - Poets and Madmen, a few great songs... but ?
JOP - Global Warning ?
Fates Warning - FWX ? have no idea whay I cant get into this
Queensryche - OMC II.... WTF ?
just realized I have bought more CD's that were old, playing catch up and getting stuff I had on tapes and vinyl on CD
Now a few people have mentioned Uriah Heeps - Wake the Sleeper, is this that good ? Do I need to be awakened ? I havent been thrilled about much since D&W to be honest

I think if Wake the Sleeper had been released in the 70s it would be remembered as one of the greats. It's the best 70s album that was actually released in the 2000s. Haha. It's good from start to finish.

Well thats good news, I'll definantly be getting it then. I bought Rageing Silence back in the 80's and it was like listening to another band and not very good. Never wanted to take the chance after that.

I was between that one and the live album. I choose finally the live one because is goddamn energetic. Either way Star One did make the top of this decade.

Yeah it's a definite grower. Same way with me and Tribe. HATED it when I bought it and over time both discs became guilty pleasures.

I'm thinking this is the case with everything Fates since Perfect Symmetry and by the time FWX came around I'd heard it and already had my favorites by them and FWX is not as good to my ears. Something, and I just dont get it, I should love that recording...

It doesn't have quite the sonic majesty of NE - IO period, that's for sure. A couple songs were pretty good though - particularly the 3 from Live in Athens.

FWX has a few solid tracks, but too many tepid, unremarkable ones to make it on par with rest of Fates catalog
