Opeth lyrics are bad.

(this is a very IMO thread)

I mean, they always look like being written the day before enter the studio, or while in the studio, especially on the new albums. I cannot see an intense process of creation behind them, nor true feelings, just the man with the dictionary on his desk, or rhymezone.com on the pc, looking for "the word that fits in". And they are always about the same old dark stuff... plus, you know the typical magazine interview situation "what are the lyrics about?" - "uhm, well i prefer not to talk about that because they are very intimate and i prefer to let them to listeners' interpretation..."... ok, do you know what does that mean? that there's no meaning behind the lyrics, 90% of the time. don't trust artists!
so, IMO most of opeth lyrics don't mean shit. i say most of them because i think that there are some very good ones, especially from the old days.

sorry if i offended someone.

I would have to disagree, on most of their albums the lyrics have been poetic and graceful, yet can be violent as well. The only exception to this is the new album where the lyrics are quite average. I think everyone has to keep in mind that of course the bloke's going to use a thesaurus as English isn't his native tongue, but I think he portrays the story he's trying to convey rather well most of the time.

I do feel this way about some of Mike's lyrics, but I guess there's really know way to know outside of getting inside his head.

You know what getting on my nerves? People who are new to this forum and sign up only to bitch and complain about the band. Serisously if you don't like the band why are you posting on it's official forum?

Also, how dare you, he shouldn't have to explain his lyrics. If he say's they are personal then they are. Have you even read the lyrics to Watershed? They seem pretty intimate to me, dosen't sound like "there's no meaning behind the lyrics, 90% of the time".

Epic Fail.

i suppose any of one of you haters could write better lyrics than mikael, especially those are are most personal to him? i think he said himself, in the lamentations doc i think, that he doesn't consider himself to be a great lyricist, and i personally am not very good with words and am not an admirer of much poetry or anything, but i think mike puts a very great deal of thought and emotion into his lyrics, and i mean especially shit like the entire watershed album, which i think seems to think deals with his own personal life and perhaps the lineup changes and what-not, and of course he has written about things like passed family members and such, which i can relate to as my father has passed away last year. anyway i think his lyrics are awesome and haunting and just fucking incredible. but if you'd rather listen to people singing about money and bitches and hittin that bootay and bling blang or what the fuck ever, then you shouldn't be on opeth's forum, imo.
