Bands like Orphaned Land (oriental metal etc.)

Hi everyone,
In this topic let's list all bands that play music that is close to Orphaned Land's, e.g. oriental metal, metal-meets-religious music, Arabian metal, atmospheric doom etc.

My suggestions:

+ Arkan, album "Hilal" - Arabian folk meets death metal: colorful Arabian instruments and chants plus typical death/thrash metal (like Slayer or Machine Head)

+ (of course) Amaseffer - Jewish progressive/folk/power metal

+ Aghora - progressive metal with female vocals and Egyptian influences

+ Altan Urag - Mongolian nomadic/shamanic metal, melodic with folk and symphonic elements. Very difficult to get, I suggest that you dload it from torrentz.com

+ Almora - Turkish symphonic power metal with certain folk influences

+ Pentagram (Merzakabul) - Turkish thrash-folk metal

+ Uaral - predominantly acoustic atmospheric doom metal with folk elements from Chili

+ Kopruler (Köprüler) - Turkish arrangements of famous classical masterpieces

+ Al-Namrood - Arabian true black metal - kinda too heavy for me, with certail folk influences and anti-Islamic [ideologically pagan] texts in Arabian

although it is not metal at all,i think i can count 'the tea party',especially the edges of twilight era.
but personally i think amaseffer is the closest.

Thanks, I'll check The Tea Party (prog-rock with Indian and Middle Easter influences, right?). Kopruler isn't metal either, it just has this unique 'oriental' coloring. I think Amaseffer is more into power metal, and Arkan is closer to OL in other ways.

Among non-metal performers I can also recommend Natacha Atlas (she's a Belgian Egyptian Jew who chose Islam and sings Qu'ran in new-age/jazz/fusion style), Loreena McKennitt (unique voice like Shlomit Levi's, some melodies are very Middle Eastern).

AFAIK, Al-Namrood and, most likely, Arkan were influenced by OL's music.

somehow tiamat's sumerian sounds,reminds me of the OL as well.
as for the tea party only look for their edges of twilight and splendor solis era.the other works are not that much of arabesque/eastern/or fusion.

There is this awesome band called Infernal Wrath from India whose concert that I recently saw, they are one heck of a band. They are a full on extreme metal act with a lot of Indian and Middle Eastern influence with quite a bit of an atmospheric element along with a few acoustic songs. Their album is due in a week or two, I'll link you guys to them once they upload some of their stuff on the net.

And @ Postmodernist,
I just checked out Altan Urag and Uaral and they are both amazing ! I shall check out the other reccos ASAP.

Try to find their (partly) acoustic EP called Alhambra, some amazing versions of the songs of edges of twilight on this one.

There is a very interesting part on the cd about all the oriental instruments they used, unfortunately it only runs under an ancient windows version so I haven't been able to get it to work anymore. If someone has a solution for this- I would be very interested to hear it!

And I vote for Arkan as being very interesting! They hail from France and are formed around an old band member of the Old Dead Tree

For non metal, but cool oriental instruments with a dead can dance feel you should check Irfan - a band from Bulgaria

well about the tea party question,the video that you have mentioned could be seen in youtube.
the alhambra version of the song 'inanna' is pretty cool,in the end of the song they play 'katibim' a very well known turkish folk/classical song. alhambra is sure a very cool album,but i think splendor solis is way too better with their celtic tunes fusing with the eastern sound.
