As with the sad songs, uplifting depends a lot on the memories attached to a song, the associations we make in our heads ... Some songs I consider uplifting are actually quite sad but become uplifting to me because it either gives me the feeling that I'm not the only one with issues, or because I first heard them during a very special (in positive way) occasion.
A few tracks I consider uplifting: Snow Patrol - Run The God Machine - The flower song *, Purity * The Smiths - Sheila take a bow The Smiths - You just haven't earned it yet baby Eels - PS You rock my world (an album full of songs about decay finished with "Maybe it's time to live" - gotta love that!) Orphaned Land - Norra el Norra Indochine - Comateen I * The * indicates that the songs in fact have a sad undertone but that they somehow got a positive connection for me. I guess the average listener would label them as sombre. Also, in terms of guilty pleasures: Tokio Hotel - Durch den Monsun, Übers Ende der Welt that's when I'm an "emo mood" ... You are allowed to laugh at me now for this confession. |

VNV NATION - Beloved
VNV NATION - Standing Especially the latter is extremely uplifting and whenever I listen to this song it takes me back to blissful Turkey. "Eyes betray the soul but there is thinking Beyond words they say so many things to me A stranger here reborn it seems, awaking wonders deep in me If nothing's ventured, nothing's gained, so I must seize the day And fighting time so hard I pray that this moment lasts forever And will the world stay standing still at least for me? And through my eyes, stare into me I bare/bear my heart for all to see With my face turned to the sun, there am I standing still It wasn't you, it wasn't me, it wasn't anything It was a day so long ago, and a chance to be as me I let the wind run through my hands, before I turn and walk away In distant days I hope to sense it all so clear" That last part is describing the feeling of true bliss, when things suddenly all fall into place. Always takes me back in mind to those walks by the Bosphorus. Life can be beautiful sometimes (well, not that often, but sometimes...) |
