The key thing, and the writer gets that, is that the band's PROGRESSED to incorporating more Middle Eastern "folklore," and we all know what that means: More of the textual, poetic, and musical elements from the Orphaned Region that make Orphaned Land so unique and interesting to those of us who crave and appreciate the beauty of the ancient scales, instruments and forms of music that originated in the, heheh, non-West (hate the term "Orient;" so vague; misleading). Absolute kicker? The fine metal reviewer, 'cause s/he digs OL, says that the music "...just flows in a way only these guys can make an album flow. There’s no doubt in my mind that I’ll be spinning this more than any other 2010 album." Dig that?! Can you dig that?! We knew this all along, about the "flow" of OL's music, but I bet the compositions are even more seamless, when taken as a whole...if one can imagine such a thing. And our reviewer (our friend, now!) has no doubt that s/he'll be playing this 'un more than any other 2010 album, and it ain't even New Year's Day! Now what kind of total confidence in the supremacy of ORwarriOR does it take to make such a bold assertion as the above? That's right. This is great. And if any idiot dares to write something critical about the album, un-Hallowed be Her/His/Its name: Burn. ![]() Oops, that was an non-peaceful statement. Oh well. Nobody's perfect. See, saying gnarly thangs Re this album...that would be pure sacrilege. Because the verdict is out--the album's like no other in its awesome, massive, stunning, intoxicating, shocking greatness. No more speculations needed: I'm so proud of Orphaned Land, and I'm so proud of us fans for believing in a band that doesn't give a f### about how the money-making 'tard bands, uh, don't think...not any neurons left in lots of the skulls out there, I'm afraid. Here we have a band that does so much more than grunt, screech, or oink (all good, sometimes) about Satan and various demons (like, the shock-value's over), accompanied with wank-fests of guitar-shredding. Nah, this is where it's at. Want religion--something to believe in--but hate organized religion; say you've been burned by it before (oh heck yeah)? Maybe we can invent one, roughly predicated on the (duh) pursuit (vs. talk talk talk) of peace, no matter how long and strong the grievances are, after we study (dude reviewer says the concept's not simple) ORwarriOR like obedient Disciples. Then, we can practice ORwarriOR. Start writing the theology books.Out with the old, in with the new. Dazed and unConfused, Happy Happy Joy Joy! ![]() ![]() ![]() Hill

GOTHIC
Quote:
Ehhhh.... Don't git caught up in the details of some buttslammin' reviewer's halfbuttock's verbiage. C'mon now, Nathalie. You read tons. Faulkner's lit is (rightfully) labeled GOTHIC and it sho' as hell is hot don't mean that ol' Will's books were about vampires and bullcrud like that faux-cool "gothic" you've got in mind. Yeah: The ORIGINAL Goth kicked 'cause it was 'bout lit, not hopelessly misguided kids from the 'burbs with identity problems.... Here: The American South was and still is Gothic in the true sense, which I'll git on over to in one sec. And, WTF, girl, it's just a review anyhow from a non-Disciple (I mean, how could an album infused with MIDDLE EASTERN rock be "less progressive?!" Uh...how many prog-bands are doing what OL's doing? See!) w/a whole bunch of labels thrown around because they expedite lazy thinking. No big deal. Yeah, oh, I'm remembering English 101...Southern Lit.... All Gothic REALLY means is "associated with morbid topics such as death, decay, fear...." Those are all awesome topics in my book, rock thrives on it, and the Orphaned Land is filled with it--ain't that the Gospel Truth? Who gives a flying freak what the reviewer actually meant? The true, ORIGINAL definition of the term fits. Forget about the silly vampire-goth-types (if that's what you're thinkin.'). If the reviewer's bright, s/he meant "gothic" in the accurate sense. If s/hes dumb as a rock, well...the second sense was meant, and it don't make no sense and thus should be ignored. Besides, I dress more goth than metal and I'm METAL.... I just emerged from the Gothic sewers of post-punk, liked the threads, and decided to keep 'em. But it's okay: Y'all keep your hair and diss my kind . Ahahahah. Nobody can force y'all to wear knee-high steel-toe boots with fifty straps, leather jackets with dumber-than-dirt spikes and various sharp stuff.... I got rid of them spikes: So immature. If you're tough, you don't need no spikes. But steel-toes? Those are useful . Heck, traveling, I won't be allowed to take no sharp stuff on the plane anyhow and neither will any pompous reviewer. Fine.

Boots
I can hook ya up with any boots ya need. But screw it: Wear what ya like and let the reviewer go watch some vampire flicks with his bloodsucking squeeze.

Well, since this thread is about impressions about OrWarrior, what could be better than Kobi's impressions? Here's a little tip from the interview I did with him, regarding the new album:
ME: Well, having talked about your past and motivations, it is time to talk about your upcoming album, “The Neverending Way of the Orwarrior”. Again it’s a concept album and it tooks you nearly six years to make it, what can you tell the fans about it? KOBI: This is our best album so far, our true masterpiece. Orphaned Land 2.0. this is our longest, most diverse and most ambitious work so far. the music, melodies, arrangements and sound are definitly our best so far. We chose to focus this time on the hero himself, and he is the main theme of this story. This is not some heroic messiah, the warrior of light is you, me and actually the listener of the album. It is like a tribute to The Never Ending Story where the reader is the hero himself, we simply feel that our world is trapped in darkness, and that our inner light is off, that's why we have so many questions, we are dissapointed from almost everything: our parents, girl friend, friends, priest and goverments and the world is a fucked up place. Weapon industries, porno, drugs, corporations who polute the world, wars and bloodsheds, every one fails, even religions. This is this darkness that I speak about. Tthe warrior of light is enlightening the hearts of humans; when there is dark, there are questions, same as its hard to see in the dark and easier in the light. If I put you in a dark room that you don’t know you will ask a lot of questions: where am I? why am I here? where is the door? where is the light? If I give you a match box and you light a match, just by this small light you will see the whole room! So much answers in a small light, so much info - with one match you can see the door, the floor, the whole room. This is what happens when our inner light shines - we see that we are all one, we stop to fight and understand what were our mistakes and this is what the warrior of light discovers in this album, and this is what we want people to discover. Just check our music, it is so reach, because we combine there everything into one - just imagine if we will live like that, if we will embrace the one that is different from us instead of exiling him, we will be so reach, we will learn about other cultures experiences, about their music, food, clothes, it is fascinating, So - let there be light. Wi'll let you read the whole thing soon, promise! Last edited by Coon : December 13th, 2009 at 11:45 AM. |

Wonderful news and wonderful song Whiskey
![]() PS: I definitely hear Steven Wilson's keyboard magicianship in Sapari's undertones, and Shlomit's voice totally hypnotyzes me. An absolute hit!

Please note that the single has been officially released in Israel and Japan only.
As far as I know, there is no physical support for this single. This is only for radios. More things soon on Sapari, stay tuned ![]()

Yeah, I forgot to say- it's a killer song with top-notch production, a great way to open the album.
The lyrics as published by Kobi in an israeli forum: (I think it's in Yemenite Hebrew, so the pronunciation here is a little different from how it's written) סַפְּרִי תַמָּה תְמִימָה סַפְּרִי נָגִיל בְּתֵימָא בַּת מְלָכִים הַחֲכָמָה אָן מְקוֹמֵךְ סַפְּרִי לִי עָנְתָה יוֹנָה סְעַדְיָה לִי בְּפַלְטֵרִין עֲלִיָּה וַאֲנִי תּוֹךְ לֵב אֳנִיָּה בַּיְּפִי עוֹטָה מְעִילִי [Sapari tama temima sapari nagil beteima bat melokhim hakhahoma on mekomekh sapari li anta yona se-adya li befaletrin aliyah va'ani tokh lev aniyah beyofi ota me'ili] It soared from the ark the dove within me It sings forever, it flies free I call to thee my torch in darkness, thou art born Ornaments of gold shine so bright You are the way, you are the light I dwell in this my shelter and thy birth do I foresee |

Well, mind you, I'm not Israeli, nor am I Yemenite, but I'll allow myself the audacity to make a suggestion on the lyrics. *blushes* I just can't resist, the song is stunningly beautiful and somewhat haunting. ![]() Sapari thamo thamimo Sapari nogil batheimo Bath malochim hachachomo On magomech sapari li Onetho Onetho yeno Sa'adyo Li bafaltherin aliyo Wa'ani toch lev aniyo Bayafi eto me'ili Sapari, sapari Sapari thamo thamimo Sapari nogil batheimo It soared from the ark the dove within me It sings forever, it flies free I call to thee my torch in darkness, thou art born Ornaments of gold shine so bright You are the way, you are the light I dwell in this my shelter and thy birth do I foresee Sapari thamo thamimo Sapari nogil batheimo Bath malochim hachachomo On magomech sapari li Onetho Onetho yeno Sa'adyo Li bafaltherin aliyo Wa'ani toch lev aniyo Bayafi eto me'ili Sapari thamo thamimo Sapari nogil batheimo *** A rough translation of the Yemenite Hebrew part: Tell me, innocent one, tell me we will rejoice in innocence. Daughter of wise kings, where is your hiding place, tell me? My dove answered: Sa'adya, I went up to the palaces And I, though secretly I am poor, still I am robed in beauty. |

Nice job translating the first part- being Israeli, I wouldn't have done it as well as you did it.
However, regarding the last sentence- "Wa'ani toch lev aniyo Bayafi eto me'ili": "aniyo" [usually pronounced "oniya"] here is spelled with alef, not aain- so it's "ship" and not "poor". "Me'ili" is "my coat" ("me'il+i). So the last sentence is probably along the lines of "And I, inside a heart of ship, am covering the beauty with my coat". ..I'm butchering this, really. ![]() (Probably we will get some translations on the booklet of the album... only one more month to go!) |

Thanks a million, Whiskey. : )))
Truth to tell, Hebrew was never among the languages I can use with some proficiency. Found the whole poem, though. So it goes like: הָרְשׁוּת בֶּאֱמֶת נְתוּנָה לָךְ שְׁלוֹמַת הַחֲתֻנָּה אַל יְסִיתֵךְ צָר מְמֻנָּה בַּת וְאַל יַשִּׂיג גְּבוּלִי בַּחֲרִי מִבְחַר מְקוֹמוֹת הֵיכְלֵי שֵׁן הַפְּנִימוֹת וַעֲלִי מִתּוֹךְ תְּהוֹמוֹת וּשְׁמְעִי תַמָּה לְקוֹלִי ... and so forth. Splendid! I also found another version of the song, a little longer, that uses the "A wonderful cup is in my garden, juicy and winy" and "Take from my right hand the poured cup that was chosen for me" stanzas (I hope I'm not being wrong again). Loved it. Somehow, someday I will learn this fascinating language. ![]() Can't wait for the album to come out! Last edited by Melydron : December 17th, 2009 at 04:02 PM. |

Hehe, Shlomit's part from Sapari has been my ringtone for around a year by now. I'm serious - I got it from then.

Oh, God, yeah, I'm with you on Levi's vocal wizardry, so we can be hypnotized together! She sings with the tune, around it, over it, under it...there's nothing she can't do with that otherworldly-beautiful voice! I mean, it's so stunning, how the band sets the chugging groove, real fundamental Yemenite chant (got me drumming on the table in a trance), and then, it's like a rocket takes off when she joins in, as if the band was rumbling before takeoff. "Houston, We Don't Have a Problem." Oh baby baby baby what musical nirvana! Yay! Okay! Be good, or don't. But be kind, 'cause I really want that New Jerusalem. You with me on that? Shlomit gives lectures on some of the famous Yemenite songs. She "discovered" her roots again singing those songs with Orphaned Land and started to investigate about the songs. Then she was frequently asked about the songs and their history and now she gives lectures.
By the way, we sell her album in the Orphaned Disciples (Hayatom) webshop! ![]() http://www.hayatom.com/shop/shop?pag...category_id=10 |

I don't know if I've ranted about this earlier but, I MISSED SEEING THE MAN PERFORM IN MY OWN DAMN COUNTRY - TODAY !!! The concert got over about 10 mins back I guess and I'm banking on SW's words that they'll be back real real soon. He's one of my favourite musicians and considering that I was on a complete Blackfield and 'The Incident' or just the general Porcupine Tree trip, this is depressing as shit!! |
