Yeah, Give 'Em Hell is a bit of a patchy affair. I was kind of surprised because they were trumped by Steve Harris as one of the better bands of the NWOBHM. The first song on the album, Leaving Nadir and "Joan of Arc, warrior queen..." one are my faves...really should dig it up to get the names but oh well!
I was kinda sad in a sense to see that they'd reformed...the way I see it, they weren't the best or most prolific of bands, you think if they hadn't been around for the NWOBHM there would've been no reason for the reformation. Certainly seems tragic that reforming a small 20-year old band is the best the guys can do now...but still, I hope to get to Bloodstock next year and if they put on a cracking set I shall eat my words with a healthy siding of humble pie!Certainly would've been worth seeing them with Diamond Head, been watching to catch those guys for a bit now. Now there's a great NWOBHM band!!! there is a vinyl copy of Borrowed Time placed teasingly in the window of a second-hand record shop near me, sadly I am unwilling to pay £9 for an album with a sleeve so faded it is nearly invisible, no matter how much I want to music inside... |

Courtesy of Dragonmaiden the latest cd to be added to my collection is Axel Rudi Pell's Knights Live - It's very nice!
For NWOBHM stuff I tend to get it on Ebay. I was too young to properly appreciate that era but I think my fave bands from that time (Apart from the obvious Maiden, Def Leppard and Saxon) were Witchfinder General, Trespass, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Diamond Head and Praying Mantis. There's some fairly good info on these bands at www.nwobhm.com

My latest haul:
Axenstar - Perpetual Twilight, nice one, sounds a bit like Sonata Arctica Pagan's Mind - Celestial Entrance, absolutely amazing! Might just be the album of the year! Threshold - Clone, just great! Definitely one of the best prog metal acts! |

Holy FUCK!
I bought the new "Visions of Atlantis" album yeaterday. It's called "Eternal Endless Infinity". This is great stuff! Melodic metal with operatic female vocals, and their music is very similar to Nightwish. The singer, Nicole, is only 18 years old, and she has a amazing voice..very soprano, heh.. My favorite tracks are "Lovebearing Storm" and "Lords of the Sea"..great songs! If you're into Nightwish you should definetly check out this album.. it has a great cover btw ![]() NP: VOA - Lords of the Sea

Personally I would say you should go for Mob Rules and Pagans Mind. I haven't heard the albums in their entirety but what I have heard sounds great!

I've heard those two are standouts.
However, I hear Wolf are a very Maiden-esque band, which always sparks an interest. Wizards are supposed to sound like Angra. I'll let you know when they get unwrapped....the PQ CD 'seems' to be stuck in my CD player so these other guys might have to wait a while. ![]() |

I've just got a couple of tribute albums. Powergod's "Bleed for the Gods", and Nuclear Blast's all star Maiden tribute, "A tribute to the beast". Both have some good tracks, but given the quality of both Powergod and the participants on the Maiden tribute, both were surprisingly lacklustre overall.

Sounds like a tip top tip JK. You can't go wrong with sounding like Angra in any shape or form. I'll look that album up after Xmas
