Either way, the whole thing really reeks of smelly brown stuff. Whether or not you believe it for what you think it is, or what it actually may be - this is just not right. Whether or not he was trying to use the dog as an example (and not actually abusing the dog), I still don't understand it completely. Maybe he was trying to convey a message, but the message was "lost in translation".

I dunno...when you look at the situation and title of the exhibit, it's pretty plain. To me at least.

My question is:
Did PETA weigh in on this? Or was it not high profile enough?

One thing is evident from this thread, and again I mean no offense, but incline to point out that there has been a lot of jumping to conclusions, and rash responses.

I agree with you and everyone else 100% that this is sick and cruel. I just fail to understand how someone can let an animal, especially a mammal, slowly starve to death. However, you did hit on an important point about cultures being different, and to add something to your statement above, it's not just "third-world" countries and the like that have customs very different from ours. In Sweden, they eat horse meat! It is (misleadingly IMO) called hamburgerkött (kött = meat). I thought Urban was pulling my leg.

But you are right... slaughtering an animal for food and toruturing it to death are definitely two separate (but somewhat related) issues.

How is this different from eating other animals? Looking at it objectively, in either case, an animal is dying, and you're eating it.

So wait...

People know that this guy didn't starve this animal, let alone to death.

Right?

Whenever faced with an outrageous story like this, I generally consult snopes.com. Here's what they had to say:

http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/vargas.asp

Americans can be very nearsighted when it comes to some practices of other countries, especially when they lean more towards being third world. Not everyone shares our views on animals, sadly. I'm not condoning these practices, just reiterating what has already been stated - different countries, different cultures.
