What the **** is wrong with people?
Boycott the presence of Guillermo Vargas
'Habacuc' at the Bienal Cen... In 2007,the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, tied him to a rope in an art gallery, and starved him to death. For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of the exhibition have watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based on the dog's agony, until eventually he died. Does it look like art to you? But this is not all... the prestigious Visual Arts Biennial of the Central American decided that the 'installation' was actually art, so that Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the biennial of 2008. PLEASE HELP STOP HIM. http://www.petitiononline.com/ea6gk/petition.html It's free of charge, there is no need to register, and it will only take 1 minute to save the life of an innocent creature. |

I don't think I need to play that video. The accompanying text is more than enough to get the idea. Absolutely sickening and deplorable. If this so-called artist were killed in the same manner, I'd for sure watch the youtube of that. Shocking to me that no one stepped in and put an end to it. Actually, I guess it's not too shocking at all.

That is horrible =/
I don't get what people get out of torturing animals. And the fact that people stood by? Had I heard about it, and been able, I would have freed the dog, and beat the shit out of anybody trying to stop me.

That is soo sickening and horrible!!!! That is just ... wow!!! :-(
Nevertheless, (and I am in no way trying to defend the person behind it), the "real art" here, and what I guess was the twisted and grotesque motif behind it all, would be the people who actually stood there and watched it. It is a clear example of what a sick world we live in, and although I can see a billion better ways to express it, I'm guessing that was what the "artist" was trying to show. Damn, how sad and cruel. c.

Just watch Animal Cops on Animal Planet. It's sickening how poorly many people "take care of" their pets.
I signed the petition. As an aspiring artist I see absolutely no art involved in this. Horrible social experiment, yes, but anyone calling this art is off their rocker.

This guy ranks up there higher than that moron who put shit in jars on a shelf and called it art.
While I agree with the general consensus on this thread - that this guy is a demented twist sicko and the association putting him up to repeat his offense is deplorable joke, if only for that suggestion - let's also remember that this guy (I don't dare call him an artist) and the association are from Central America, where the culture and laws are different than here in America. I don't know if there even are laws against animal cruelty there. (Does anyone here know?) I hope no one will take what I intended to say her out of context, but that area of the world is not the most "well-off." Many of the countries there are still considered "third-world" or close to it and, generally speaking, their respect for domesticated animals is probably not as strong/sensitive as those of Americans or even Europeans. If someone told me that the practice of eating domesticated animals such as dogs was still something going on there, it wouldn't surprise me. (Hey, when your starving and that's all the meat that's available ...) I've heard that wild dogs such as this one that was taken off the street run ramped in the cities of some of those less well-off countries. So for the people living there, killing one of those dogs might be considered more on the same level as someone killing a deer in this country. Yes, this particular style of killing is still cruel, non-the-less, but there may be so many of these wild dogs running the streets that most folks there may not see this as a big deal. Personally, I'm all for people hunting deer for meat/food and even for sport (since they are incredible over-populated in my area of the US), but I wouldn't condone the torture of a deer purely for the sake of the advancement of someone's "profession" as an "artist." I'm probably not phrasing all this as best as I could, but hopefully you get the point of what I'm trying to say. I signed the petition. I'm against the continuation of this asshole and his cruelty to animals. I just thought I'd bring up some perspective from the other side of this argument which I don't see many people (on this forum or in those petition signatures) taking into account.
