Finnish metal band Malpractice

Anyone know of them? Offer any comparisons or opinions? Point the way to any sound clips?

Rock on!

.

I live pretty close to the city where Malpractice originates from and thus heard about them years ago in the 90's. Then they seemed to disappear, until I went to see a Tarot gig in the neigbouring city on May 13th 2005.

My surprise wasn't little when I saw Malprctice open for Tarot. I wasn't familiar with the new material of this prog metal band, but on stage they did decent job and made an impression on me with their tight performance, even though I remember thinking that they could have paid more attention to the overall sound and mixing. Propably it was more due the small venue, where they had to play on the tiny bar stage rather than on the main stage which was filled up with huge amount of Tarot's gear.

The music itself sounds like melodic, middle tempo heavy metal with plenty of proggish influences, like more complex song structures and guitarwork. Also a couple of catchy choruses have made their way into some of their songs and also more side-taking and criticizing lyrics like "The Industry" will fit well in the proggish image.

Since seeing them live I found out that they were bound to release their sophomore album "Deviation from the Flow" on November 2nd, after 7 years of silence. Unfortunately it hasn't reached my player yet, Iv'e only heard a couple of songs besides the live gig.
I read from reviews them often been compared to Dream Theater of Evergrey, but IMO they aren't too close, but rather different. First, they use two guitars (Joonas Koto, also in To/Die/For and Markus Vanhala, also in Omnium Gatherum) but no keys which alone is a big difference and the singer Mika Uronen has a very unique voice. Playing for years in other bands and projects has brought the necessary routine and it shows out in the band's playing. All this brings them a style of their own and if reminiscences to some prog bands may occur, one cannot say they are quite similar with any existing band.

Sea of Tranquillity (**** ˝)

Sorry, didn't find any samples, if anyone does, please kindly link in this thread.

Bump!

About the time to resurrect this thread, since Malprctice have completed work on their third album named "Triangular". The new CD will be released March 19. through Spinefarm Records

A change in the line up was done when in the end of 2006 vocalist Mika Uronen quit Malpractice after 11 years, and after auditioning some great singers the band decided in August 2007 that the new vocalist of Malpractice is Aleksi Parviainen. (Reversion, Soulcage)

"Malpractice's new outing displays influences ranging from Dream Theater to Megadeth, Queensr˙che to Annihilator and Testament, still maintaining the unimitable Malpractice touch, unparalleled musicianship and superb songwriting which have kept Maplractice in the forefront of the Finnish progressive metal movement for the last 10 years.
A definite gem for the lovers of progressive metal and thrash!" (Spinefarm Shop)

Tracklist:
01. Maze Of Inequity (7:35)
02. Symmetry (4:11)
03. Deception (4:31)
04. Deadline (5:52)
05. Platform (4:36)
06. Triangular (8:37)
07. Waves (4:02)
08. Fragments (10:42)

The band have uploaded "a short documentary of the Finnish prog-metal band Malpractice recording the album "Triangular" at Astia-Studio and South-East Sounds and having some fun in the process..." on Youtube at h**p://nz.youtube.com/donzabal

I have 'Deviation From The Flow' their '05 release and like it a lot. I think they would be perfect for a future Progpower.

Heh, view the videoclips at Youtube! In one of them (pt3 I think it was) they say that the previous CD is only good for a coaster compared to the new one and also use it as one in the studio.
And by those clips I reckon they are quite right, the new material sounds awesome. Can't wait to get Triangular in my hands. Six weeks to go.

Cool news about there being a new ablum avaialble soon. I liked Deviation From The Flow quite a bit, but I was dissapointed to hear that the singer on that album left the band.
