Evergrey have inked a record deal...
Color me one happy fan after reading the Blabbermouth news... now I just have to wait for "Torn" which has been rumored as coming in September.

Perhaps it would be pathetic if the trailers didn't sound consistent with their comments. But they do. Maybe you should take a listen first. |

Dammit you beat me to it Rocky!
![]() The old tired back to our roots kind of thing does get a little tedious, and doesn't hold out to be true in a lot of cases, but yeah, I hope you've actually LISTENED before forming an opinion. I'm not a die hard EG fan, but I do like them, and I'm in the minority who thinks that that the excessive bashing MMA took was unwarranted. Was it their strongest release? Not in my opinion, but I don't think it was "bad" enough for the slagging it got... |

MMA is my least favorite EG album, but frankly I'm not really concerned with what has motivated them to return to something more similar to their older stuff. Evergrey has great catalog and it's understandably tough to constantly be one-upping yourself, or even just staying on par. I don't understand why trying something new or different(or as you call it, selling out) means you can't justify going back to your original sounds. |

I distinctly remember how Tom said they were willing to keep working with that pop producer cause it was so damn easy that way. But now he says and does the opposite. I personally think the mindset of the band who wrote and released In Search of Truth is simply not there anymore, so even if they attemp to recreate the past they'll never fully achieve it. Why? Primarily because of the new drummer -- his terribly predictable and straightforward drumming will never match that of Patrick Carlsson.

It's amazing how you make judgements on events that have yet come to pass. Can you predict the lotto numbers too?

Just my opinion -- but I haven't heard Evergrey be dark since Solitude Dominance Tragedy. If this album is as dark as Glenn indicates it is, I'll be one perky booB.

+1 for MMA. While it isn't close to my favorite EG, I still did enjoy it. Definitely more straightforward than past releases, but crunchy, heavy riffs were there and it definitely had hooks. With that said, I personally am looking VERY forward to the new one and don't think that they are done.

You can hear snippets of the new Evergrey here.
(this is a link to their blog where they post updates, videos, etc) MMA isn't my favorite album from them either, but I like it for what it is, and Still in the Water is a fucking awesome track.

You know, and this may just be me, but I think Tom Englund is a very one dimensional singer. He's got a great voice, but I can't stand listening to the same song for 55 minutes. I own Recreation Day, I think this pretty much sums up the entire Evergrey catalog for me.

Yes. Tom is. So are many singers. They have a niche they fall into. You aren't expecting them to escape from about a 5 note range. You either like how they sing those 5 notes, and how they arrange the 5 notes, or you don't. But Tom's voice is only one part of Evergrey. The actual song compositions is what I like a lot. Tom just brings out emotion in the songs that a few bass notes and power chords can't necessarily do.
This is the same critcism leveraged against Matt Barlow.

And it's exactly how i feel about Barlow as well. The voice is another instrument, and either people can play it or they can't. It's like using 3 chords on a guitar for everything when you're talking about the "5 note range". It gets to be very samey after a while. Especially when those 5 notes are accompanied by the same pattern of inflections extremely often

I may be one of the few people who like MMA and the other albums. I think this upcoming one will be awesome, but MMA still sounds great. Differrent sounds, but still good nonetheless!
