Got this for Fathers day. I have not listened to the new stuff yet but the dvd is good. The dude can sing. The drummer can sing as well. It will never be the same without Perry but this about as close as it can get.

Sorry dude, I just don't agree. He has never grabbed me. But if you dig him, that's cool.

After reading a few more posts, all I can say is that some of you appear to be thinking a little too hard about all this. If you like Journey, the Journey sound, Neal Schon's guitar playing, etc. then buy the disc. Yes, it's made to make money. They went with Wal mart to reach the widest audience possible(something ANY artist want to try and do). Your buying a compact disc, not a philosophy. And the new guy sounds like Perry because that is what the majority of the fan base wants. Why take a risk with that when trying to preserve a 30 year career? I don't mean to sound like a jerk, just adding my op. The disc is great.

Hey man, there's no jerkiness in you here, you're just tellin' it like it is. And Journey rocks, period! Sure, it's damn hard with out Perry; and Schon is easily one of the most underated guitar players in rock, so folks just chill out and enjoy it for what it is...

Just picked up the new Journey, popped it in the player, listened to the first track Never Walk Away and thought "Hmmm.....this sounds familiar". Then I popped in Jeff Scott Soto's Lost in the Translation cd and listened to the first track Believe In Me (co-written with Neal Schon). Is it just me, or are they eerily similar? Boy, what a kick in the sack for Soto!

My 2 cents on the Soto/new guy thing. 98% of the Journey fan base has no idea who Jeff Scott Soto is and about the same has no interest whatsoever in new Journey material. What they want is to go out on a summer evening and relive the past. As much as we, and possibly even the band, would like to freshen up the sound and do something relevent for today it would probably not sit well with the casual (majority) of their fans. Soto in Journey is on par with Corabi in Motley Crue. Probably better but just not the same.

As for the new guy ( I'm too lazy to look up his name) not being as good as Perry, maybe he can't quite hit the notes the way Perry did in 1986 but could who knows if Perry can still hit those notes?

In conclusion, I think the new album is safe but solid. It's sounds kind of phoned in but could easily have come out in 1989 and been a hit. I'm sure no one will read this as I always wait to post until 3 weeks after a thread is relevent, much like any new Journey album.

Never Walk Away also sounds like Be Good to Yourself. Same chord progression I think. To Be Alive Again and It's Never Too Late on the two previous albums are also very similar.
