just saw kill bill and i found it really cool, it's a feast of awesomly filmed scenes on top of eachother and i love it. at times it almost felt like a spattler flick, gore galore at times so to speak with heads rollings and dismembered limbs flying. the characters are excessively cool especially "gogo" the schoolgirl bodyguard with the spiked ball at the end of a chain, she's been in the promotional clips a lot btw so even if you haven't seen it you've probably seen her. too bad though that tarantino had to make the final battle scene in black and white, but that will probably be gone when it's released on dvd, i hope

Yeah, I liked how he included set pieces of animation as well. Tarrantino's obviously been watching a lot of Japanese & grindhouse cinema as of late. At the end of the day, it was essentially Bruce Lee's Game of Death on steroids, right down to the yellow tracksuit.

She was a little famous even before Kill Bill. See multiple discussions about one of the best films from the 90's: Battle Royale.

It was a while ago so I don't remember the details, but which scene is that? The church massacre? Wasn't it supposed to be in b&w to show that it was something that had happened in the past?

no it was when the bride butcherd all those masked bodyguards in the hotell or whatever it was, i heard tarantino had to make it that way to be allowed to show it

That's amazing - I don't remember that being in b&w at all. Maybe that's some kind of law specific to Sweden?

Anyone else seen Kill Bill and remember the huge finale being in b&w? I saw it in the UK and as far as I can remember, it was in coloUr...

well i downloaded it so it's not the swedish version i saw, perhaps that was just done in the US cause i guess that's the version i got hold of. they're pretty picky over there with violence in movies aren't they?

watching Conan the Destroyer. Good God what a bad movie. But it's one of those that is so ridiculous, it's damn entertaining. How could it not be? It's got basketball legend Richard Chamberlain, weirdo Grace Jones, and the chick that would would be the sister in The WOnder Years (I think).

And with Arnold saying "Krom" every time something happens, it's a doozy.

Yeah, CtD was a disaster. It's even got that chick from The Wonder Years.

CtB is classic though - awesome soundtrack, brilliant script written by Oliver Stone, and of course James Earl Jones as the big bad wulf. Much more bloodshed too - CtD was aimed at a much younger audience, along with shit like Red Sonja.

Krull is great. I want my own spiky boomerang thingy.

Saw Ah-nold in The 6th Day recently. Not bad, but I hate when directors feel the need to push their own agenda in a movie. In this case, the director's agenda was regarding cloning. Still a decent flick.

Krull is good in a cheap, low budget, cult kind of way. You know, when then-not so famous actors like Liam Neeson and Robbie Coltrane were starved thespians.

Another film like this is Flash Gordon. Cheesy, low budget, acting is iffy, and that fight with Timothy Dalton on the moving spikey platform is pure class. Of course the Queen soundtrack is the icing on the cake.....

Krull was an awesome film for its time. That bladey bommerang thing was brilliant and the way he pulled it out of the lava it was like something out of King Arthur's fantasy. Mind you it was on the other night and I fell asleep in front of the tv !

Kill Bill: It did have the fight sequence in B&W. There is absolutely no way that film would have been given a certificate had it been in colour. It was just a brutal scene.

I saw 'Lost in Translation' and it is a brilliant indie film. If you can forgive it's sluggish pace and lack of studio lighting the film shows a fascinating glimpse of isolation and loneliness. Bill Murray is so cool in this film.

So Lord of the Rings won the Golden Globe for best picture, and Peter Jackson won best director. Good for them

I don't remember that Kill Bill scene being in b&w at all. Why wouldn't it have got a certificate otherwise - Ichi the Killer did, and was hailed by the critics, especially Empire magazine (5 stars).

I saw the first half of Battle Royale II last night. Fucking brilliant, but a retread of what happened in part 1 so far (kind of). Anyway, 26 children get wasted in the first 10 minutes. Doesn't quite top Suicide Club though where 54 children jump in front of a moving train in the opening sequence. Got to love those warped Japs.

Just ordered Ju-On: The Grudge. Supposed to blow everything else away (including The Ring). Tom Cruise just picked up the rights for this and The Eye for Hollywood remakes, but who the fuck wants that kind of pansy glossy bollocks?
