Thing about Empyrium is that you're dealing with something quite drastically different on their first two albums + demo.
Agalloch are consistent across all their releases in comparison. Perhaps I should have done an album vote, e.g. Pale Folklore vs. Songs of Moors... but nevertheless, this thread was going to happen sooner or later!! |

I canNOT choose between the two, but I think if I had to I'd go with Empyrium, just for the more varied work. Actually scratch that, as perfectly beautiful as many Agalloch moments are, Empyrium have two clear highlights of music and art in general: the violins of Waldpoesie and the title track vocals of Where at Night the Wood Grouse Plays. Empyrium.

Like many others here I hold Empyrium in the highest regard and consider Misty Fields a masterpiece and Weiland one of the most depressing albums ever, but they are up against fucking Agalloch, and I worship almost every second of their entire recorded output.
