Old Engine Oil, the plackard thingy said it's aged in single malt whisky casks for 6 months, so i had to say and buy a bottle.

decided to give the Rogue Shakespeare Stout another go, the first one i had was meh but it was right after band practice and after a few shit quality beers, so it wasn't an ideal environment for popping of ye olde cherry.

hey i've said it before but you need to try this stout:



it's the darkest stout i've ever tried. BLACK as death, and fucking amazing. doesn't have a distinct character like that Old Rasputin, but it's just an amazingly smooth and superblack stout. it's like, if Guinness were a seriously evil stout, it would be this here Mortality Stout.

My uncle & I actually got drunk, smoked some herb, and made a 5 gallon batch of some German Altbier last night!!! Now it just has to burp/ferment for the next couple weeks, then carbonate it, and it's good to go!!!!

yeah i'll probably drink the Engine Oil (it's only 12oz.) and then eat. i prefer getting a buzz on an empty stomach anyhow, because you get get loaded on like 2 beers and then 3 hours later feel perfectly fine.

Ugh. My local alcohol monopoly store fukkin sucks. See, Systembolaget does sell a fair range of good beer, but apparently not in small Piteå. About 90% of everything they have is generic light lagers that all taste the same. I thought I'd list what they have and see if you beer snobs can give me some recommendations. when it comes to weird stuff, i generally read the little write-up me local provider has for them. generally if it's a good story (like Unibroue talking about the end of the world and whatnot) it's worth a purchase.

Oh yeah, I think I've had the Boston Ale once, not SURE. Cheers for the recommendations! I guess it is a "DECENT" selection but there is so much more stuff in larger cities (such as... Umeå.) For example, there is a number of really good Swedish stouts (Slottskällans Imperial Stout, Nils Oscar Imperial Stout) that they don't sell here. I mean, what, 3 stouts and 1 porter?

Also, I always wanna try Young's Chocolate Stout but it is sold in 6 packs of cans. wtf is this shit? So, I never buy any. Brooklyn's Double Chocolate Imperial Stout is sold in 6packs and is 8.5% for only $7.99. That shit will wring you out to fucking dry. The alcohol is a tad to present in the taste, but overall isn;t that bad.

sounds like a bar i went to last week, they had about 90 beers on tap but only one stout and no porters. then i ordered a Belhaven and the fucker came to me cold.

but then next door was a fine british-style pub with Boddington's on tap, and they even let you smoke inside (i had 3 smokes, so much for quitting).

oh and if i remember right, the blue from Chimay was their best. i think, could be wrong. either way, Chimay is worth a shot. don't make any plans after having one or two though.

Speakeasy IPA is the BEST IPA EVAR. not the hoppiest, but just a strong character that really wakes up yer sinus cavaties. also Marin County Brewery makes several good IPAs, mostly depending on the season.

oh, and you would LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Mendocino Brewing Company. they are pretty much the #1 when it comes to overall quality. some brewers have one or two types of beer that are great, and then several others that pale in comparison. not so with MBC. pretty much anything you get from them is High to Outstanding quality. all their beers are named after birds so you know when you're dealing with them:

Dude, I see them Mendocino beers all the fucking time but never get em. They are relatively cheap as well, comparatively speaking. I'll check out the stout and ipa's.

You wanna talk about hops AND character?! You have no say until you finally try Dogfish Head 90-Minute IPA. I know I sound like a broken record here but it really is the most amazing beer I have ever had, and I have had many...especially IPA's.
