It's damn near impossible to buy a house with cash and quite difficult to buy a car with cash if you want something that runs and is safe. That said, I, too, think it's a good idea to use cash for everything else.

I did get suckered into signing for a credit card as a freshman, but so far I've had no problems...I agree about them preying on people too dumb to manage their money and sending an assload of junk mail, nobody really needs that shit.

The only car we've never paid cash for is the current Subaru and we actually "own" it because I used a home equity loan. |

Im gonna try to hire a lwayer who specializes in consumer debt and FDCPA stuff and see if I can settle. The lawyer fee alone will be worth it, since I would probably get nowhere on my own if trying to negotiate. All for a dumb letterhead.

im one of the few who actually open those credit card letters. hey, id rather open a new CC with no interest than pay 10%-20% interest. interest is stupid.
i always move my debt over to no interest cards, or at least cards with no interest on debt transfers. then i simply never use the card. this has save me thousands. and the debt is quickly going away. best case, get a card with a high limit, no interest, put everything you owe on it, and pay it off quickly EDIT: and like dorian said, it's difficult to buy a house or car or furniture, appliances, luxuries, etc on a cash-only basis, unless mommy and daddy are helping. credit cards arent inherently bad. it's using them unwisely that leads to people to think "it's all the credit card's fault!", simply because they cant manage finances.
