Anorexia Nervosa - Redemption Process

Anorexia Nervosa – Redemption Process
Listenable Records – November 1st, 2004
By Jason Jordan

Anorexia Nervosa play a brand of epic black metal. Thus, if you regretted shedding your Dimmu Borgir collection in favor of street cred, then Redemption Process is an album you should proudly extol.

“The Shining” begins quaintly with string instruments, but evolves into a Dimmu Borgir meets Crimson Moonlight entity. The music is bombastic and aggressive, if you hadn’t guessed that already; and, the vocals – despite being completely average – are fitting. “Antiferno” drops the soft segue and opts for heaviness from the start. Furiousness reigns again within Anorexia Nervosa. The 1:00 minute mark is rich in melody, and nice synthesizer remarks supersede at the 0:48 minute point. Double-bass pounds throughout all numbers: all musicians included are apparent masters of their individual crafts. “Sister September” commences with a solemn, lucid introduction, and the song as a whole takes a look at a slower pace. “Sister September,” however, is one of the must-mentions because of its enrapturing capabilities. “Worship Manifesto” arrives prior to “Codex – Veritas.” The latter utilizes the same soundclip as Novembre’s “Distances” (Novembrine Waltz), which will definitely break your concentration and mess with your head. “An Amen” and “The Sacrament” start slowly, but fit the previous material’s mold(s).

In summary, be sure to search for Anorexia Nervosa if you’re in the need of epic black metal. Some of the aforesaid compositions would fit well on a more hostile Death Cult Armageddon. But – most importantly – don’t let my comparisons to Dimmu Borgir dissuade you from the saving grace that is the Redemption Process.

8.5/10
