Jordan Knoll a.k.a. Death Aflame
Jordan Knoll is a 20 year old University student currently studying Film and Communications at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. His history with metal began five years ago when he acquired The Jester Race from his local CD shop. This led to a deep exploration of the Gothenburg, death and black metal genres in the years following. In addition to his undying love of old school death metal and good black metal from any era he also readily enjoys the doom metal subgenre and occasionally forays into heavy, folk/viking and power metal. When not listening to music Jordan enjoys quality cinema, a good novel, walks in the park/forest, playing guitar and jamming in a still to be completed death/black metal side project.

Kim Furness a.k.a. Axemaiden
Kim Furness is a nefarious goblin of doom currently residing in Wales, UK. She has many interests and when not burning things and maiming those around her can generally be found in the university library studying for her MA in Mythology and Folklore. She can also be found surgically attached to her guitar or bass, and generally spends a good proportion of her life being crushed in mosh pits. Kim has been listening to all things heavy since her time in the womb (proof, methinks that parents are occasionally worthwhile) and considers music to be her all consuming passion in life.

Michael Koger a.k.a. unknown
Michael is a 19 year old English Education major with an emphasis on Rhetoric and Composition at Cal State University Long Beach. Like most writers, he is an eccentric individual that should be approached with caution and, perhaps, a blunt object. Aside from spending most of his money on guitar gear and black and thrash metal records, Michael is an avid fan of the moving pictures and literature of the 20th and 21st centuries. He works as a cashier at a grocery store and is forced to deal with the public for hours on end for meager pay. He doesn't seem bothered by this. Michael also enjoys growing his facial hair and frightening the elderly. He is the latest addition to the UM writing staff and is beginning to get used to the floggings and lashings.

Russell Garwood
Russell lives in London with his girlfriend and their pet snake. He is studying for a PhD in palaeobiology at the Royal School Of Mines, Imperial College: this involves the use of CT scans to create three-dimensional computer reconstructions of rare fossils. As well as editing UM’s webzine he is the news & reviews editor of
Zero Tolerance Magazine. In addition to his studies and journalism Russell loves movies and is an avid amateur photographer. His tastes are varied; if something is good, he’ll listen to it, anything from extreme metal to jazz, with a healthy dose of EBM, electronica, industrial, rock and many other styles thrown in. A big fan of world and transgressive cinema, his taste in films is nevertheless similarly wide-ranging, favourites including
Battle Royale, Hana-Bi, Elephant, Oldboy, Requiem For A Dream, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Versus, The Crimson Rivers, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Spirited Away and
Ichi The Killer.

(Guitar Acquisition Syndrome) and fancies himself a musician. For the last 7 years Ryan has been entrenched in the scene, whether in the US or abroad, playing in various bands, teaching guitar, and spreading the word of metal to all he meets.
