Seven Witches - Second War in Heaven

Seven Witches - Second War in Heaven
Crash Music - CMU61162 - Jan. 24, 2006
by. Amanda J. Carlson

This traditional power metal band has re-mastered their first two albums for them to be released for the first time in the U.S. Their very first album, Second War in Heaven, originally released in 1999, just totally screams Crimson Glory, Manowar, and Hammerfall. Seven Witches are a band that really wants to keep that classic metal style alive. Only they did it in the cheesiest way possible.

I suppose it’s the lyrics that bring in the heavy cheese-factor. For example, the song titled “Camelot” speaks for itself, and in “Metal Daze” he sings about, well, heavy metal. As great as metal is, it’s a real cop out in terms of lyrical topics. Musically they’re pretty tight, though at times seeming somewhat amateurish, which is safe to say since this is technically their first album. And the singer is trying way too hard to be King Diamond.

There are two tracks that do stand out to me, one entitled “Seven Witches.” It has a very catchy guitar melody that, as basic as it is, rises up above all else. “The Chain” is the other one that takes my attention; it’s a Fleetwood Mac cover pulled off decently. Not the type of song I’d expect a band like this to do.

Second War in Heaven will probably only appeal to Seven Witches fans, especially since it has rare old demos as bonus tracks. It’s really only a treat for those into this style.

4.5/10

You are clueless. Great album and the band's best for sure. And "Metal Daze" is a cover of a Manowar song.

Sorry for not being a Manowar connoisseur. But that just proves how cheesy it really is.
