Insision - Beneath The Folds Of Flesh

Insision - Beneath The Folds Of Flesh
29th April 2002 Earache Records/Wicked World WICK 13CD
By Russell Garwood

Swedish band Insision (not to be confused with their fellow countrymen Incision) release their debut album for Earache on the 29th of April. Differing greatly from the majority of Stockholm's Death Metal crowd, Insision offer brutality and extremity above all else, priding themselves on their savage form of metal. With sporadic discords “Beneath The Folds Of Flesh” is, at times, reminiscent of its influences in the American Death scene. The production by Berno Paulsson is as clear as can be expected for such a violent record, highlighting the tight start–stop riffing (a good example being opener “World Impaled”).

The guitar work and drumming are impressive, if slightly unoriginal - and the numerous blast beats and intense riffage build a sheer wall of sound. The vocals, like the rest of the music, are grating and extreme; a continuation of the established theme, and a less prominent bass blends in with the prevalent atmosphere. Lyrics such as “World impaled, human race is erased, we are the waste/World impaled, as you crawl in your blood, Satan wins” show originality is not high on Insisions list of priorities.

As can often happen with such an un-relenting onslaught, “Beneath The Folds Of Flesh” can become monotonous, and while Insision isn’t really to my taste, it is a must for anyone who loves brutal metal or longs for the Death of ten years ago…

Sounds like just my kind of thing! I've been waiting for a revival of 80's style death metal...

I think everyone's finally starting to get bored with the utra-polished melodic Gothenberg sound, and now everyone's rediscovering their Obituary and Monstrosity albums... Suits me!

I'm quite fed up with the Gothenberg sound except in certain cases. Dark Tranquillity have definitely got it right, but there are so many twee melodic death bands coming out - and I seem to get sent all of their albums!

Fuck man if your interested the just go for it... the new stuff will totaly crush [and yes a bit monoton and grinding, unrelenting DEATH METAL to upset all you polished uber-trigged sterile sounding freeaks out there! ]
GO DEATH METAL!

News about what is happening in the INSISION-camp 2003

Swedish Death Metal maniacs INSISION is at the moment Working on the new material for the forth-coming, second album, which will hopefully be released in early 2004
At this point INSISION have 7 furious and deadly satanic hymns of brutal DEATH METAL. Dirty, Dark and depraved, just like death metal should be. Songs ready at this point are:

»Havoc
»Immanent Vision
»No Belief
»Plague Mass
»The foul smell of Humans
»In The Gallows
»...And we'll wash it all away
[all titles are © ]

This will be the second Album for INSISION to be released on Earache / Wicked World records
[first one being the; Beneath the Folds Of flesh-album which got a massive response and was and still is Highly recommended by lots of Fans, zines and bigger magazines involved in the DEATH METAL scene today]

This record will be filled w/ a complex mix of fast grinding scenarios which will literally punch you in the face and just when you thought you got it all together you’ll be battered down with heavy parts that will force you to bang that head once more. With a red line through it all and rhythmic structures and speed-fuelled tempos to deliver the message INSISION will eat you alive! Stay tuned for more audio-violence…

'World Impaled' is my favourite DM song. BTFoF is a quiality album, if a little short. I'm really looking forward to the follow up.
