Kill A Celebrity are a Sydney-based three piece that play grindcore influenced by bands such as
Pig Destroyer,
Splitter,
Nasum and
Cephalic Carnage. The above quote is part of the band's rather admirable mission statement that charges us to try and rid the world of the
Britneys and
Hiltons who selfishly take other people's precious air. When listening to grindcore, I always find that the concept is alot more funny/serious (delete as appropriate) than the actual music which is, in fact, bollocks. Admittedly, there is something brilliant about a genre that is so blatantly uncommercial but therein lies the double-edged sword: The music does not inspire the changes that the mission statement projects. There are some notable bluesy touches in amongst the noise by guitarist Lachlan Dale that slightly softens the blow but overall I'm still left mystified as to who actually buys into this type of japery.
