Colour Haze - All

Colour Haze - All
Elekrohasch 006
By Brandon Peters

Colour Haze is a band that is highly influence by Jimi Hendrix and the kraut rock scene, but they do not wear their influences on their sleeves. On their newest album, All, the band keeps their psychedelic tone, but start to explore new levels of song writing and musicianship; moreover, the band goes from a song that grooves to a heartfelt song with an unique style of riffing.

What sets Colour Haze apart from other bands, is their songwriting; their riffs evolves from a riff heavily dependent on groove to a something that is psychedelic and smooth. Riff after riff in this album is smooth and just something you want to continue listening to; since the band is generally labeled as stoner rock, you can’t help but hold the general stereotypes of that style of music. However, those stereotypes are completely unwarranted to a band like Colour Haze. This is especially true for this album because of their experimentation of new ideas; these ideas work so well into the philosophy of Colour Haze’s songwriting. The band varies from a drawn out song that eventually builds up like a traditional progressive rock song to a song that is extremely riff heavy. The album is somewhat song oriented, but even with this slight downfall every song flows into the next and makes the album completely pleasing.

Think of a day entirely spent by a long walk on a hot summer day just admiring nature and having a time to sort out problems in your life. The perfect soundtrack to this day would be Colour Haze’s All. It’s completely relaxing and can be listened in the background while contemplating your next move or listening attentively.
