THINE - In Therapy

THINE - In Therapy
Peaceville - 2002

Peaceville mention ANATHEMA in their description of THINE, and it's spot on - the laid-back melodies, subtle hooks, and melancholic vocals are everpresent here on In Therapy, THINE's second release (their first being 1998's A Town Like This), and it's difficult to at first see them as anything but an ANATHEMA clone.

Their saving grace, however, is Alan Gaunt on vox (who manages to show a bit of mongrel in his performance at times), and their more dynamic arrangements - it's not just Judgement rehashed. They have the elements of Brit rock mixed in with modern British Doom, fine pop sensibilities, all layered with finely-played rock guitar. Nice.

ANATHEMA fans will dig it, moody student types will love it, and the DOOM heads might even get a kick from the low end grooves that rear their heads occasionally. Just don't expect a goodtime party record from In Therapy - the title lives up to its description... (!)

8/10

LOL - love the reference to 'moody student types'... d'you reckon 'moody ex-student manual labourer types' like yours truly will dig it?

Another one to add to the 'must buy' list, methinks...
