Weird, I've always loved that about this album, haha. Makes for a very cool sound IMO. Just sounds like the OD820 doing it's thing to me..

I love that sound too! Best thing about the guitars on the album I think. I never knew how to describe it! I'm trying to get a similer sound and the best of got so far did involve a OD820...

Very very very crunchy guitars. Good shit.

BTW the kick on their previous album is the worst kick sample I've ever heard in my life

It definitely took me some listening to finally get used to that "Frail Words Collapse" kick sound, and by no measure do I think it's great, but at least I can listen to that album without it irritating me. I don't know who mixed that CD or what metal recording experience they have, but I've always imagined the band being like "Make sure the kick is powerful and obvious in the mix", and the engineer fulfilling those wishes without really understanding how to make such a request sound good. I wonder if he was immediately happy with the sample he chose, or if it took some time to convince himself...

I think that this was one of the better mixed metal albums out there. Very impressive, and everything is very clear. One thing I would like to know is how the vocals were done. I noticed that the singer sounds different live, than the CD. By different, I mean his voice sounds deeper and the CD, it sounds like there is more of a edge to it. Its almost as if the live he growls from the back of his throat, and in the studio, there is more of a scream.

The song "nothing left" on "an ocean between us" sounds ripped off from Metallica's Blackend.

The opening riff from "An Ocean Between us" sounds suspiciously like the riff from "Creeping Death" by Metallica.

I Don't think they intentionally ripped them off, but the intro riff in "Nothing Left" does have a slight resemblance to the one riff in Metallica's "Blackened".

the "Nothing Left" riff isn't really crazy, in fact its actually kind of generic and basic....enough so that there are tons of bands you could say it sounds like. Have you ever played the riff from Nothing Left or the riff from Blackened? They are completely different.

Sorry I'm being a dick, I'll stop ranting now.

Now that you guys are talking about it the first thing I noticed was the resemblance between the intro and the Paradise Lost song Say Just Words

Disclaimer: I do love AILD, one of my favorite bands. No bashing, just curiosities

I won free tickets to The Sounds of the Underground tour they did and was allowed to meet them backstage for a moment, I wasnt going to (im no fanboy) but the beer started flowin and I was like "fuck it" so anyways, I got to talking with the dudes about Zao and Old living Sac and all that cool Solid State stuff and it turns out they LOVE the the Embodyment record "embrace the enternal" which is probably up there in the weirdest metal mix that somehow works category, the one guitar player dude and I had a pretty in depth convo about how awesomely weird the guitar tone was, so its possible that they were actually shooting for that, BTW if your into as AILD check out that Embodyment album, Its the only good one they ever made but its really fucking cool old school metalcore.
