I guess my question is what bands that you say have been trying to copy them are the ones dream theater a copying now I don't get it I only ever here In DT's music bands that have influenced them I don't here any bands that have tried to copy them and now DT are copying other bands There is always some of there influences and bands they enjoy in all there music So with there last to CD's they dabbled with ( so to say ) straight out metal or power metal , But its better than hearing the same thing every time they make a new cd isn't it? Then all you would here is people complaining everything they do sounds the same. __________________

You want something concrete? Listen to Images & Words. Pretty good album, to be honest. Now listen to just about any "prog metal" band from Italy, or anyone whose name has Ivory, Dreams, Liquid, Black, or some other color in their name. These bands have in their descriptive blurbs the word "clone". Essentially, they emulate Dream Theater. 99% of these bands are shit on a stick. A few are half decent, and those are the ones who are just plain better than Dream Theater to begin with. Now, listen to Systematic Chaos. If you can swear it sounds significantly different from one of those bands, I'll give you a cookie. It's the derivative degeneration property associated with facsimile. Copy the copy, and copy that copy, and sooner or later all you have is static and unreadable, or in this case, unlistenable.

So Ken, what are these progressive bands that are better than Dream Theater, because I'd like to hear them. This in no regards making any comparison of Symphony X or say Threshold or PoS whom I do listen too but what other bands are so great? I could go for another new band but I do have my vocal issue, so it must be a good voice that actually sings.

Forgive me for not checking my grammar, Ill make it simple since you are far more intelligent than I As far as te repeating I was trying to figure out what you meant , that dream theater has been copyied ( Wow Big surprise that never happens to anyone ) But you say now there copying those who copy them ( I Don't think so) No i still don't here them trying to sound like other bands I don't feel like DT copy's anyone, I could pick up anyone’s cd and hear something in it that sounds like another bands music , IT doesn't mean there copying them No I don't like every song from there last 2 cd's , that doesn't make me say they suck now and i won't stay a fan Just because there messing around with the style of music they choose to play at this time , no one owns a style of music do they?

Oh man, I'm soooo excited for this.
I don't know about you guys, but I love most DT albums. (I didn't really like the first one, and I only like Trial of Tears and Peruvian Skies from Falling Into Infinity) Systematic Chaos was excellent, and I heard that this album's gonna flirt a bit with choirs and gothic music (something like Symphony X's Paradise Lost). |

I'm major pumpitude myself. I don't care what snobbery might align against me - I freakin' love Dream Theater.
I am right along with forgottenglory here - if the music matches the artwork parallels, it will be awesome! But, I still stand by my argument that they will not reach the lofty output of I&W and Awake without Kevin Moore's songwriting. Maybe they could collaborate................ |

Yea, I think it will be about the same style than their last 2 albums. But some surprise would be nice...I will buy it anyway cuz there is alot more boring music going on nowadays so it's always worth it.

was meant in the less serious sense of the phrase
does seem rather odd to be unhappy with progressive and come to the SX forum to voice that, though. But like someone said on the last page its all personal taste. I enjoy enough varity of music I dont feel the need to slag any of the styles that have integrity.

I had something not nice to say, but it seems Dream Theater threads always manage to bring out the worst in us...
What I will say, is they're still one of my all time favourite bands, although their last few albums have been not quite as good imo, I can still find parts which I really like, and even FII which is probably my least favourite of their albums, has a few of my favourite tracks in 'Trial Of Tears' and 'Hell's Kitchen/Lines In The Sand', so I'll be buying it regardless and I'm confident I'll find some positives even if not as good as SFAM or Awake or whatever. But hopefully it will be and that will be even better. ![]() |

I'll be downloading this before I purchase. I've been avoiding DT; the absence of their music makes me a better person.
