    hey yall

just wanted to bring the topic of "pan law" up...

in nuendo, there's several different pan law's. the main ones are 0, equal power, and -3

i've been using 0 for a really long time and just recently switched to equal power. a lot of people will probably try to tell you it really doesnt matter, because those people believe everything is relative. they are right, levels are relative, BUT! when you're panning stuff around, with 0 pan law, the center track is marginally louder than panning it 100% left (sounds like 3 db louder, to me)

ALSO with equal power pan law, a sound amplitude of 0 shows up as -3 db on the channel output (this is automatically adjusted to make the pan law "work")

so im curious, what do some of you use, and more importantly mr. slate (when mixing in the box) what pan law do you prefer?

I'm using -3 in Logic, didn't enjoy the -3 compensated (signals got too hot too quickly), and haven't really tried 0.

Apparently I use equal power. I never gave it much thought to be overly honest with you. Equal power always seemed the most natural, and I never felt a need to change it.

it doesn't matter at all what you're using...you'll set the faderlevels accordingly...(unless you're not mixing with your ears)
