Working through some new Metal the wifey got me (ok, she cheated, it's my Amazon list...)

After hearing so many good things about it, it's still impressing me big time. Love it:

Resurgency - No Worlds... Nor Gods Beyond

No-frills old old-school death metal. If you want something innovative and new, you'll need to look elsewhere. This album gives me vibes from bands like Morbid Angel and Brutality. This is a good example of how to do everything right without trying to push the envelope.

Mausoleum Gate - Into a Dark Divinity

Finland's answer to Tarot and similar Hammond organ-wielding bands from Australia. I'd have to say that I prefer this album over any of the similar bands from recent years. The vocalist is also super charismatic. "Solomon's Key" is one of my favorite songs of 2017.

This was an honorable mention for me rather than an entry on my main list for this year but I agree that they stand above many similar bands. I look forward to more from them.

I think I can say I actually prefer Alder-era Fates Warning.

Definitely one of the best albums in their discography.

Yeah, very strong. What I'm also liking is that Alder-era albums seem to be easy to find for really low prices. I found this album at a thrift store 6 months ago.

Just barely didn't make my top 10. From one of the dudes of Fen and IMO better than the Fen album from this year. Extremely tasteful fanstasy-ish atmoblack.

I'm picturing Jon Lord using his B3 like a flak cannon while violently shaking it like he usually did and wearing a Rambo bandana and a blood soaked face.

Outside of the OG shit war metal is kind of tired, but this absolutely rocks on all fronts.

That Ingurgitating Oblivion album is fuckin cool. One of the more interesting brutal death~ish albums I've heard in a while.

Yeah Damaar is one of the very few bands that gets it right. Heard Antichrist's Sacrament of Blood? Probably the best Blasphemy worship around.
