I'm not sure if it's a B-Side or an EP track or what, but The Cure has a song called "Carnage Visors" that is a long song w/ no vocals...very sad/depressing music.

^^ You can get that song on the 2-dic remastered version of the "Faith" album, which also comes with the AMAZING song "Charlotte Sometimes", a hideously underrated non album track from that time:

    everyone should like this song:worship:

If you mention This Empty Flow and The Cure, you must absolutely listen to Magenta Skycode - that's a band too - not only one of the best records ever released.
Their debut album is probably the record I played the most in these 3 years or so and now have just released a couple of beautiful brand-new songs.
Jori was a former and fundamental member of This Empty Flow.

Pls, also check Malory from Germany, if you're into Slowdive and stuff like that. Definitely one of the most dreamy bands ever.

Now and then LifeLover does have something like Discouraged Ones. Only often much more angry and/or desperate.
That doesn't mean most of it is like that...but some.
New MCD from them out now...the first three songs are brilliant. Myspys are one of the new ones. Most of it is in swedish vocal wise though.

I don't think Lifelover has so much in common with DO or Katatonia. Anyway, I didn't know this band, but it's really sick and weird stuff.

If you liked Malory pls, check this band I've lately discovered - Air Formation http://www.myspace.com/airformation.
Pls, check also the record lately released by one of their member Matt. Find the link on the same page.

Definitely the italian guys Room with A View, their first album "first year departure" is very much in the vein of DO.

The Wounded - Monument. though not thier best stuff, still cool. in the last album they got more proffesional and lost the amateurish feeling that DO had, check both if you have time. Novembre's Arte Novecento should be in your list too

the argentinian bleakness http://www.myspace.com/bleakness might satisfy your thirst for melancholic stuff as well

My current obsession band= Amoseurs. Not necessarily so much katatonia related; but the feeling of the music, to me, relates greatly to mid katatonia type feeling. Hmmm....kind of similar cover to some kata art :)
