Don't get why Foo Fighters are nominated in both the metal and rock categories, but whatever.

My point exactly. Why combine genres? They're totally different :err:

The Grammy's have become one big circle-jerk for the major labels. Next.

They put out the better album of everyone else, so they deserve it. Also Dave Grohl is the most talented man in rock and roll alive today so he deserves every award ever for every and all years.

You know, over the years I have always bitched about the grammys in terms of these categories. Nowadays, I just don't care anymore (and don't know why I ever did). They're such a joke now. As for Foo Fighters though, I may not listen to them, but they are a good band for what they are. I would much rather them get it than a number of other bands.

going by the list of nominees, if you didn't see The Foo Fighters winning then you don;t know how the Grammy's work. It's always been a popularity contest, regardless of talent (although in this case, Dave Grohl does have TONS of talent).

THEY ALREADY HAVE A ROCK CATEGORY. IT'S A JOKE.

And I seriously have never understood the Foo Fighters' appeal, I guess. All the 'popular' songs/albums whatever...they just don't move me. At all. Never have. And I like some alternative/hard rock. I'm a long time fan of bands like Incubus and 311, but the Foo Fighter have never been a band I've enjoyed. And so for them to go up against actual metal bands like Mastodon, Megadeth, and Dream Theater, and just nip it away after already winning in other categories...well, the Grammys have been a joke pretty much forever...I shouldn't be surprised.

    Well, let's see here.

    Sum 41 - suck
    New Mastodon - suck
    New Megadeth - suck
New Dream Theater - pretty damn good
New Foo Fighters - pretty damn good

So, it's not that surprising IMO.

    This.

I really wish they wouldn't mash "hard rock" with "metal".. but lets face it, people who watch the grammys usually don't know what metal is, anyway.

Right! Watching the shocked look on the interviewers face in this video when they tell her that "On The Backs of Angels" is a 9 minute song! Priceless!

    lol..

I'd love to see them give an award to an actual metal band, one day. Would be pretty awesome. Last year they gave it to Iron Maiden, right? But it felt like they were giving it to them more because Iron Maiden has deserved it for the past 30 years.

Yeah, I agree. El Dorado was not a song worthy of a Grammy, but I am glad Maiden was recognized :headbang:

Don't hate on the Foo Fighters, they're on your side! Here's Dave Grohl's speech after winning Best Rock Album:

It wasn't quite Sacheen Littlefeather, but in a night of going-with-the-flow, it stood out as the only "statement" anyone made. Then again an hour later he went out and performed "with" deadmau5, so who knows!

As far as the "metal" category goes, be happy that it wasn't eliminated outright like polka was a couple years ago! And the total number of awards was dropped from 109 to 78 this year, so a lot of other stuff got merged/dropped too.

I was 100% srs. Prove my opinion wrong. Dude has worked with everyone from Kurt Cobain to Josh Homme to King Diamond to Steven Pearcy to Lemmy to Wino and was even supposed to work with Chuck Schuldiner before he died (he did though raise funds for Chuck's cancer treatment). He even most recently played with Foos live on a moving truck to interrupt a Westboro Baptist Church protest. I can't think of a more versatile, competent, original, talented musician and songwriter in rock and roll alive today.

I never saw that quote, Skyrefuge. That was incredible. I think my bar for respect for the dude has raised even higher.
