This. All though I like the orchestral element and speed. Also more keyboards is fine as long as they don't diminish the guitar work, which they shouldn't. Speed is an important element of what they do, and have always done. I'd like them to maintain the metal element but incorporate more into a progressive context. They're world class musicians. Not too many bands can play like they do.

I think the news about the gig at the cruise are already out but perhaps not all the legal stuff is done, so this is why I assume the date is not on the official website yet. More in general, what usually happens is that when a band is scheduling a tour, they wait for all of the dates to be 1000% confirmed, then they release the statement. But the organisers who have their date already set can start advertising it before the official statement from the band.

I think if they buried the guitar in the mix it would sound better. Not even joking. More bass, tone back the keys.

I'd like to see another concept album about an epic novel, like The Odyssey or Paradise Lost (two of my favorite albums).

No idea which novel to use.

Maybe.. Les Mis? done entirely differently than the musical of course.. although cameos of melodies could be used or something.

Le Mis? LOLOL You've gone off the deep end.

That would be the final nail in the coffin for SX.

    1.) It's horrible.
2.) It's been done to death.
    3.) Musical theater adaptations.

If they were to do a book, At The Mountains of Madness, Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus, The Picture of Dorian Gray are some suggestions that come to mind that would adapt well to progressive metal.

Have you read it? It's an excellent book. One of my favorite classic novels. There is quite a bit of hardship and despair. There's running from the law. There's battles. There's a love interest.

Many of these themes were already explored in the Odyssey. Why does it have to be fantasy based and not something genuinely human?

Fantasy is the most genuinely human. It is the imagination that is awakened in the vulnerability of dreams.

Yes of course I've read it. You should expect that of me, being the book nut around here. Le Mis is Dostoyevsky's dead horse, beaten again and again.

Please nothing based on literary works again. Actually, don't even do anything conceptual or thematic either. Just do individual, unrelated songs. I think that's the only chance for some real diversity within a new album from these guys.

I think The Wizard of Oz would make a great 20+ minute epic. Acoustic intro, then a wild instrumental (like in TDWOT), immediately followed by Russell whispering "We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto." Munckin Land would introduce the main theme of the song. It would be uplifting and anthemic. Then, the introduction of the characters scarecrow, tin man and perfect for a compact verse-chorus section. [...]

Childish? It worked for Through the Looking Glass, which is one of the classiest songs they've done in my opinion. They should do something like this.

    :loco:

err. no. If it's to be done at all, it has to be subtle. Otherwise, best to stick to non-concept albums

There won't be an update. When there is, they'll say you were all jerkholes for whining here ya go.

It's basically the worst PR any band in the biz has.

OR: There's no news. In which case read between the lines - there's no news. Band is dead.

Or maybe SX is the new Tool, and you hear nothing at all for 5 years and then an album drops. Don't hold your breath though.
