    I don't give a fuck how old it's getting.

He needs to support himself? I'm a 24 year old waiter and I made about $30 an hour last night. I support myself entirely, and STILL find money to put out new music. And I still write music that's true to myself.

Stop making excuses for him. He is a shitty human being. Fuck him, everything he stands for, and if you stand by him, fuck you, too.

We have different takes on it, which is cool (and interesting). I look at WOS as a logical progression from BB. I see no decline or regression whatsoever. The riffs are slightly less barbaric than before and a bit more polished, but yea, I think it works. The decline stated with AOR in my opinion. I mean even the name of the record just stinks of mass appeal.

Man I used to love Arch Enemy. I saw them on tour maybe 12 times in like a 2 or 3 year period. They were a brutal live band. So loud and fast. No 'jump up an down' shit like In Flames writes now. Just raw speed and duel guitars up the ass. Used to be awesome. One of the best memories I have is seeming them on the WOS tour in Worcester on the upstairs stage, tiny room, packed, no barrier. I was right up front. The energy level was through the roof. Never saw them with JL unfortunately.

Again people (or a select few anyway) start shitting on Jeff. Guess what...I've met Jeff. I've hung out with Jeff. I've had beers with Jeff. He's just a chill, down to earth, nice dude. It really isn't possible to 'hate' him if you've ever had even a 5 second conversation with him. And saying he ruined Nevermore is a fucking joke. Saying you 'hate' him because of 'what he did to Nevermore' is even worse. So dramatic. I've said some pretty stupid things on this board, but you really do sound fucking pathetic when you continually whine and look down on WD and Jeff. Oh WD you saved me from suicide (true?) so you owe me. You must make music that appeals to me and only me, because you're my bitch. You sing for me. If you even try to do something that I don't like then you have failed. And you Jeff, you awesome fucking guitarist, you used to be so good on the guitar but you started playing a seven string and ruined my favorite band. You owe me, too. Nevermore, your band, is actually my band. It's all about me. You're a shitty human being and fuck you and everything you stand for). That's what you sound like, bro. Your sense of entitlement is nauseating. You're rude and you're obnoxious and you sound like you're 12 years old. You really need to get your ass kicked.

Jeff was the engine that drove Nevermore (taking nothing away from WD as I've said many times). Even WD said, "Nevermore is a guitar band". Implicit in that statement is the fact that as Jeff goes, Nevermore goes (went). Who knows why he joined AE, and who knows why he left Nevermore and why he doesn't want to return. Maybe he will one day. But, as common fans of Jeff and Nevermore, can't we at least let the man have fun and cheer him on a bit for fuck's sake?

you know, i must be one of the very few around here who actually doesn't have a problem with JL (ab)using the seven, and honestly, i don't see what the problem is with it; that extra string just gives the user more choices. at least he uses it to his full advantage, and not half-assed like those good-for-nothing djent-heads, who mind as well just cut down a big tree branch and install two heavy-gauge strings and call it a day.

this isn't to say i'm sticking up for him or anything like that; the guy does need a legitimate band, and leaving such a great band like NM for a solo career still doesn't sit well with me these days (the "solo" instrumental shit's has gotten quite old, and i haven't heard Dystopia, but it's instrumental from what blurbs i may have seen about it, so it's probably not much different). BUT, him joining AE may be good for him. i remember all those great songs he composed in NM, so this may actually be beneficial for both parties.

    but that's just me

The real issue of Jeff in AM is now you have two primary composers in one band, Jeff and Michael. Jeff even said in interviews one reason Nevermore couldn't keep a second guitarist is because he did so much it left no room for the second guy, yet that second guy had to be an equal to him.

It reminds me of when Jason joined Metallica. He had written virtually all of the first F&J album and much of the second, which came out after he left, but there was no room for him in Metallica. A band can't have two or more primary songwriters. So will Michael let Jeff write music for his band, or will Jeff settle for being just a contributor to Michael? That will be the interesting part.

And some of you dickheads need to calm down. It's a good thing Warrel is on tour and has other things on his mind then babysitting this place.

I can easily picture them writing together. I don't think Jeff is the type of guy to walk into someone else's band and demand 100% control. If he's planning on joining for one album and a tour or two, I can totally see Mike writing some riffs, Jeff writing some riffs, and each of them trading some solos. They could probably write an entire album in a week.

And again, saying things like "Jeff leaving Nevermore to start a solo career doesn't sit well with me" is 1) just having an opinion based on no real knowledge of the situation and 2) sort of irrelevant. Who are we to judge? His playing is still fucking insane (solo records, CD) and actually heavier and more death metalish/tech death than it ever was with NM. He isn't selling out in any regard musically. Furthermore, maybe he didn't leave Nevermore. Maybe he thought he had to leave for what could be any number of possible reasons. Don't forget that Van left too. There's obviously something going on with the relationship between the guys. Just to assume Jeff wanted all the glory and start barking orders is just that: an assumption. Also, Jeff was already getting tons of hero worship as the lead guitarist for Nevermore and basically controlled the song writing process. He was doing interviews, on the cover of magazines and doing clinics. I highly doubt that he thought to himself, "yea, if I start a solo campaign or a new band I will become famous! More famous than I was in Nevermore!". I really think he's just a guy who loves playing the guitar and exploring his options while doing it. There is nothing wrong with that.

Also, it's not the first time a former Nevermore guitarist joins a death metal band...

I honestly look forward to hearing AE with Loomis, my only problem is the new direction they've taken with the new singer. It's really terrible, I'm sad to say. I've listened to all the new songs they've put out and it's just BAD. I don't think Loomis will save it but he definitely can't hurt the band. They need a male singer.

As far as NM goes, I really don't care anymore. I haven't been infatuated with NM since EoR so I'm quite ambivalent, no pun intended. If anything, I'm kinda glad to see them doing other things other than NM because I think better music will come out of their respective bands rather than if they reformed NM. Maybe Mike's style will rub off on Loomis, and I say this with no hyperbole or ill will, but Loomis hasn't written a good riff since EoR. He weedle weedles really well but his riffs have been afterthoughts at best for the last 10 years. Ironically, it seems that Mike can't write a riff to save his life anymore, judging by AE's latest. Hopefully they will both remind each other how to write heavy thrash metal because it's pretty much the blind leading the blind right now.

Whenever a talented guitarist says there's no room for another guitarist in the band because he already does everything (Loomis), that's a huge sign that said guitarist is making up for his lack of songwriting skills with technical chops, and has confused the two. If your playing is so involved that there's no room for anyone else, you're doing it wrong. You are the musician version of the guy who has a small cock so he compensates by buying a Ferrari.

I bet they'll be able to do some cool harmonies and soloing, though. They're both great soloists.

As usual I agree with some, but not all of your thoughts.

Jeff didn't write any good riffs on TGE...? Really?

Jeff playing anything off the first 5 AE records (especially the first 3) will be fun to see. I'm glad he joined a good band for at least a little while. I don't know why alot of metal musicians nowadays write stale, boring music but I still love em' and best of luck to Jeff! I liked some of Uneasy Conscience and Dead Winter's replies.

He's more than welcome to, but I'm pretty sure he agrees with me that Jeff sucks. I've always made it very clear I'm here for Warrel and Jim only.

Bottom line is, Jeff joined Arch Enemy. It's even worst than when Vortex joined Dimmu Borgir. That's what this is. It's corporate. It's evil. It's a slap in the face to people like us they bought and own every Nevermore album and tons of their merchandise.

He's basically telling us all "I don't care about making meaningful music, anymore. I want to make money."
