I recorded a Bugera this weekend. Wasn't massively impressed to be honest. Very little versatility on the lead channel, the gain seems to go 1, 2, 10 with nothing in between and the EQ's just sounded wrong to me. None of the frequencies seemed to center in the right ranges. Got a decent tone in the end, but it seemd to be a very "one sound" sort of amp.

Damn dude, that sounds pretty sweet! And to think I thought the Bugeras were a cheesy imitation brand when they first came out.

Yeah, I realize that. What I meant was, I didn't want to give them the time of day when they came out. But, I keep hearing this kickass clips, which make me care less who makes them.

Ah...I want to AB the imitation Bugera 5150 with a real 5150 and see how similar they really are. The only thing that worries me is the reliability. I wish someone could put up some pics of the guts of the amp. I'd like to see how we'll they're put together.

OK OK OK! Here is the signal path guys :)

Ibanez RG 7 string with standard ibanez pickups --> BEHRINGER TO-800 (Ts9 copy) --> Bugera 6260 --> Mesa TRADITIONAL recto cab --> Shure 57 --> Alto minitube pre (Shit as all hell) ---> Cubase :)

    Settings were:
    TO 800: Drive 25%, Tone 50%, Level 50%
    6260: Pre 3.5, Treble 5, Mids 2, Bass 6.5, Presence 8, Post 2

    :)

As for Bugera's being imitations and so on, after hearing many 5150's lately, they sound close but a bugera and a peavey can be told apart very quickly. The highs have been rolled off a little on the Bugera, it's not as bity and the low end is a little tighter IMO. The mids are a little more accented but it sounds like it's in a different region also :)

Cheers guys, glad you like the clip, I'll keep you updated with info on the new Orpheus ep :)

(This is the set up we are using to record it :) )

I think what you are hearing is the difference in the iron(transformers) used.

    I didn't realise a transformer would make such a difference, that's really interesting :)

Check out the third page of this review.

Although it's only the preamp section from one of the combo amp models it gives a decent idea of how neatly they look to be assembled.

Yeh I thought it sounded Rectoish also. That's the only reason I recorded a killswitch clip. It's funny just how different the cab makes the amp sound. I mean through my Marshall it SOUNDS like a 5150, through the MESA it's completely different all together :)
