The song "Deliverance" is one of my favorites from them. The end is one of the most ominous conclusions I've ever heard, the first time I heard it...I don't think I moved for the whole 4 minutes. I've had a little harder time with Wreath...not quite as melodic as most of their stuff, but it's still growing on me. The rest of the album is very good, IMO...as good as the rest of their catalogue? Maybe not, but it's different and that's important for a band. That's why I think the D and D combo was a brilliant idea.

^ yea the end of Deliverance is cool, I've heard alot of people dislike it because it is so simple and it goes on for 4 mins

I commend Opeth for making the end 4 minutes long.

Those guys can really fuck with time.

That 4 minute ending is the only bad thing about that album. Otherwise, it's fucking great (and under-rated).

i love by the pain i see in others and deliverance (the song), they are among my fave opeth tracks. the rest of the album isnt to thrilling imo. for absent friends is nice but nothing special, a fair judgement has nice solos and a crushing coda riff and wreath and MA are kinda boring imo. therefore: not underrated

It is simple, but it is somewhat hypnotic also. My main thought was that it would kill live...with the right lights, it would be very ominous/evil sounding and looking. Unfortunately, they didn't do much with it on "Lamentations"...but I still love cranking it in my truck.

Deliverance has few redeeming qualities that I can think of. It's an overall insipid observation similar to it's counterpart. Although I believe "A Fair Judgement" possesses one of the band's best, and most interesting guitar solos. But that song alone is the one with any essential qualities most obviously present.

I don't know, every time I hear "By the Pain I See in Others"...I like it more and it's creeping into my top overall songs by them. "A Fair Judgement" is a great song though, and in many ways...probably the best on the album.

Yeah as I've said somewhere before...I think Deliverance just takes a while to get used to, and at this point the only song that bores me a bit is Master's Apprentices, not that its bad, but just not all that special.

The album's heaviness has really grown on me for some reason....I used to only like Damnation myself (before I was a fan), but now its all about the crushing sound, even though I still love the light parts.

That seems to be a reoccuring theme among newer fans, like me. "Damnation" was the first album I heard in full. I knew what their overall sound was, but that album blew me away enough to make sure I listened to everything they did. Didn't take much to appreciate their heavy side even though I've never been a death metal fan. And "Deliverance" may have taken a little longer to get into, but I've grown to like it a lot.
