Since the MPA has been cracking down on tablature created by users like us, I was wondering what the band thinks about all of this and if they are for or against us using user-created tabs for their songs?

I don't think the band has anything against it as long as "users" don't charge people for reading the tabs. I see user-made tablatures as a free promotion for the band. For example I found At The Gates by listening a powertab of Blinded By Fear. An awesome find.

I think it doesn't matter at all to artists in general.
It's a music industry "problem" cause they see free tabs as a threat for their income with "official" tab-books and stuff.

They can't offer anymore for sale something better than what you can find for free, so they're trying to make tabs illegal.

Does anyone know if there's any kind of court ruling on this case? I'd really like to hear what the courts think.

But then that would mean it's illegal for anyone to use any tab from any band, including SX, unless the band gives permission or simply doesn't care (I hope this one!).

Doesn't SX have tabs on their website? In that case, they probably don't care. :p

As far as I know, they don't have that authority. The tabs are on the band's official site and are transcriptions of the band's songs.

Haha... you're not allowed to tab your own songs... they belong to the MPA... did you know the MPA invented tabs and music notation, therefore own all the rights to it?

The MPA symphony orchestra were a strong influence on Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Paganini, Dvorak, etc. Infact, MPA luthiers designed the first musical instruments. They even gave life to the birds that chirped the first notes that inspired music. MPA is your god, bow down in the platinum legal maze! :worship:
