I got "The Spectral Sorrows" in the mail today. I popped it in and the first thing I noticed is that the instrumental opening reminded me of video game music. I thought about it all day and then it hit me - it kind of sounds like the underground theme in Super Mario Land. They are a bit similar - hear for yourselves:

    hahaha, nice find!

I always thought that riff sounded familiar too. Mario must've seeped into my subconscious.

aye, similar but that happens sometimes, you found out a melody from the depths of your mind, and 2 years later you are suddenly shocked while listening to one your favourite songs from your childhood that you almost forgot 15 years ago. :) or it may be pure luck too. there are endless possibilities with notes while making music, but 2 different guys pick the same 7-8 notes and line them up with similar timings :D
