lasse, thanks heaps for the drums, i've been hoping to get into working more with real tracks and relying less on samples and replacement. i had a shot. kick is replaced, i mostly tried to get a usable snare tone and had a quick play around tonight.

    Cheers man!

I had some issues with getting the accented kick to level properly as it would spike way above the other hits so the high end had to be lowered a bit...

Thanks man, yeah the accented kick was a bitch, those are the over's that ppl talk about that happen from time to time : \

I flipped the phase on the snares and found that I got a 'thicker' sound of it... I kind of was going for that, but I really enjoyed yours.

Can you shed some light on what you had done to the kick specifically: Signal Chain, EQ pattern, maybe even compression....

Did you do that with plugins? Or an actual board.... it sounds rrrrreally punchy. :kickass:

All just stock plugins. Quite a bit of compression on the kick, brought the mids up and the high end a bunch.

Not trying to be a smart ass,
but what's the point of mixing the drums only?

Thanks lasse, my next kick mic is going to be a D6 for sure. I love the sounds that are coming out of it.

Considering that it's the first time I have done this, I guess it's quite normal that I feel so fucking lost!

Well, I have been trying different things: comps, eqs, multiband comps and gates.

The most processed tracks were the snare and kick. It's quite difficult to achieve the sound you're looking for with them since they are so dominant in the mix. On the other hand, I was really annoyed by the overheads as I couldnt gate them to get just the cymbal sound, so I was fighting here with the hit hat to get a propper panning of the last one.

There's also some phase issues that I dont really know where they are coming from. Do you have some ideas?

Anyway, here is the clip. I'd really appreciate every kind of comment (I 'also accept "sounds like shit" comments!)

    @Behind,
your kick and snare are WAY too far back compared to the cymbals dude.
kick sounds like a thud, no top end in it at all.
snare sounds like you've tried to put some weird verb on it?
i dunno dude, maybe start again.

on another note. this was also my first time and im actually quiet happy with what i've got!

would also love some feedback :)

Huh... After some time, I heard what I did and... sludge drums?

You're definitely right. I started again. I deleted the reverb of the snare, lowered the oh volume and added some bass on the kick. I duplicated the kick track and treated both in a different way: one track for the sub kick and another for the highs.

    Here is what I've got:

Concerning your drums, I'd say that cymbals are quite low to my taste but the overall image seems pretty balanced.

PS: thanks to Lasse to take the time to upload this and give us the oportunity to practise with actual drums!

Kinda tired, and rather sure ear fatigue has kicked in, but here's my mix so far.

I kinda wanna use samples on the kick, but then it would lose that raw feel that the accents provide.

Also, dropped the room overheads down a lot. I wasn't a fan of the mud they seemed to bring to the mix.
