    Yay, a gaming thread!
I'm a hardcore fps fan, mostly on pc (counter-strike, quake, etc) although I really need a new rig for crysis, STALKER, even FEAR and battlefield, as a radeon x1400 and 512 RAM doesn't cut it these days :erk:
I also like rts, to some extent. dawn of war, for instance, is pure win.

I also own a ps2 and an xbox 360. I mostly play racing games, aaarrr pee gees and more fps on them.

as for WoW... find a decent private server. they're entirely free (you don't even need to buy the game, you can download the client for free) and they can be ridiculously fun, plus you don't feel the need to keep playing it thanks to the high costs.

I bought a bunch of nes games and a top loading original nes system. I can't wait for all of it to arrive. the 2d era had some of the greatest games ever, but it's a shame that most ppl only care about graphics and realism

Star Wars Battlefront is fucking amazing. I absolutely love those games.....I played for a good 13 hours last semester...o_O

    o_O

I also enjoy the Mortal Kombat series. Even the original doesn't get old...I've been known to hook up my SNES just to play Mortal Kombat I.

Ive still got my Nes, and about 200 games, and it all still works fine dispite the fact ive had it for 18 odd years or whenever it came out. Its still one of my favourite consoles, no doubt about that.

    I hate you.

    Really.

I've wanted one of those for years. The closest I've ever gotten is an SNES, and I only have about 15 games for it, because my family was cheap.

it is actually really easy. just download the client off blizzard and patch it to 1.x (if you want burning crusade, unfortunately you have to buy the expansion)
then choose a server that supports your version from this list:
    http://wowstatus.net/serverlist.php
register on your server... usually they just ask for username and password, no email address.
lastly, dig around in your WoW folder until you find a file called realmlist.wtf
it should read something like this:
    [ set realmlist us(or EU).logon.worldofwarcraft.com ]
    you want it to read:
[ set realmlist xxx.xxx.xxx] (xxx.xxx.xxx is the ip of the private server you have chosen)
then, simply launch wow, log in, and play!
I suggest trying a funserver, they're not realistic (level caps of 255, mass gold andexp rates, and weapons that deal 99999dps) but they are fun. alternatively, look for a server with the tag 'blizzlike' if you want one exactly like the official version.

If you do like it - pay for a subscription though D: Private servers are lame as hell.

Why exactly does WoW charge? For server maintenance and bandwith? Come on, it's like the most popular game in the world and they can't get enough money from sales? What about Valve and Steam? You don't need a prescription for that, and they host tons of games with literally hundreds of thousands of users playing online at a single time, with 16,826 YEARS of playtime per month!

Eh? Last time I checked Valve and Steam doesn't host their own servers? You host your own using their network. Blizzard on the other hand hosts a hundred of server clusters on their own, which they regulary need to update with fixes and so on, ofcourse that costs money. They also need to maintain it alot more, if a random CS server is down some people gets annoyed and play on those who hosts its server 2 instead. If a WoW server is down ALOT of people complain because they miss alot of instance resets and stuff like that, so they need tight maintenace. WoW also releases new content all the time with the patches which also costs money to develop. It costs ~13euro a month btw.

The software for WoW is free. They charge for the expansion, but wait long enough and that will go free too, and if not it will go down a lot. They charge monthly because it's played by 8+ million people and they don't mind 15 dollars a month, so they charge 15 dollars a month. Money, baby, money. Also, CS doesn't require near as much server space as WoW. WoW has to keep track of each individual player all the time, which is taxing to a server. It's very comparable to other MMORPGs in cost, except of course the shitty free ones.
