Same honestly, this belongs in the controversial options thread but I prefer Metallica's covers of the album on Garage Inc. still the strength of the composition is there.

    >slapping together a medley of various songs retains the strength of the original compositions

No, points should be distributed according to rank, just like everyone else. I do it to give some context to how high of esteem I hold the album. For example, Suffocation's Pierced From Within was #10 for 1995, but is an A- album while the #10 album for 1983 is a B- album.

I thought this would be your response. His vocals aren't everyone's cup of tea.

Also, not really comparable but I rate Court in the Act much more highly than Pierced from Within.

Lol. Definitely belongs in the Controversial Opinions thread. That is just outrageous to me. Melissa is far better than anything Metallica ever did.

No I meant I still voted for Melissa because it has strength of composition. It's #5 on my list even though I don't like the vocals.

The first 3 or 4 are equitable to Melissa, and the 5th is a few rungs under it.

No. Ride the Lightning is the only Metallica that even comes close to the glory of Melissa. But my general distaste for Metallica has been discussed enough on this board.

Puppets is definitely Melissa-tier, Kill Em All isn't really even close, even though it's a more important and influential album.

I like Master of Puppets, but it has nothing on Melissa to me. Master of Puppets is too inconsistent and masturbatory to compete with an album like Melissa.

Well, I think the important thing to remember here is that these albums mentioned are amongst the highest echelons of metal albums produced.

inconsistent and masturbatory is just as much a description of MELISSA as MoP methinks, but w/e, KeA has both beat in that regard.

I don't hate Metallica or anything (any of the following three would probably make my top 10 for that year) but I can barely even remember any song from KeA after the first three. And The Four Horsemen I just find really lethargic and overlong after hearing Mustaine's version.
