I decided to finally download this because of the good reviews in Royal Carnage, and since I can't respond to it there and can't find any other threads about it in here I just made another one.

So despite these guys looking completely incompetent: http://www.metal-archives.com/images/77619_photo.JPG

And despite me never really being into Immortal, this is really cool and rocking and upbeat but not too, and not too fast. Like someone pointed out it's kind of like early Bathory but a little more layered and not quite so simplistic.

I'm still on my first listen actually, butI'm pretty much positive I like it. Anyone else feel the same way?

I will. I thought that track was great - combining Motorhead and the latter period of Immortal? I wanna see Lemmy in teh Corpsepaint!!!!1111

I'll buy this without further listening. You best believe me, beeyotch.

As I said somewhere else, the first song on this album - which you also could download, isn't represntative for the album. Rest of the songs are more "grim" and got awesome guitarwork and great solos by Arve (Enslaved).
And Abbath still knows how to make evil wicked riffs. This is fine upbeat Black Metal. I think that only the first song is a bit similar to Mötorhead.

Tbh I'll still buy it. I think Abbath has access to magic riffs.

    I's debut album is exceptional.

The original download of "The Storm I Ride" actually doesn't do the song any justice at all, given the production style of the album.

Between Two Worlds is an album which take several listens to unpeel each layer. Initially, the album sounds like a continuation of Sons of Northern Darkness, but as you progress through the album and then play it a second, third or x time, this begins to change.

I is a blend of different styles: Immortal, some death metal style riffing here and there, a strong thrash influence, and of course as many people have pointed out already, Motorhead.

The years away from the music scene have done wonders for Abbath's croak, his vocal work sounds better than ever before in my opinion (although he does make some funny attempts to "sing" in one or two spots on the album).

The album is full of subtle suprises: from memories of Immortal (lyrically as well as musically), to some almost progressively styled bass playing by King, or the amazing guitar solo showcase of Arve.

A tight, solid album, which while not necessarily new, nevertheless does breathe a fresh breath into Norway's metal.

    Great album, highly recommended.

I kind of agree with you there, however I do think the rest of the album keeps the spirit of the first song, and there are parts in songs that are like the first one.

listened to the album...I thought it was pretty good...could've used more fast paced/upbeat songs, but overall it wasn't bad
