Saw Taking Dawn, Coheed & Cambria, and Slash last night.

Taking Dawn are a fun band. Very LA, very rockin', very enjoyable. Hope those boys go far.

Coheed....wow. How does that voice, come out of that man? Complex, rivetting music. Loved every second and then when they closed with Welcome Home....amazing.

Slash was Slash. Guitar work was incredible, perfect. But Myles doing Velvet Revolver and Gunners songs (Night Train, Civil War, etc) I dunno - just didn't seem to 'fit'. Maybe if I wasn't so familiar with his voice from being a long-time fan of Alterbridge I might have got more out of it. There was a sense of .... detachment for me.

But still - top night. As far as I was concerned I'd got my money's worth by the time Coheed walked off stage :)

Next up for us - FINNTROLL with CLAIM THE THRONE in a couple of weeks!

Short notice, but if anyone in Melbourne likes funny/weird noise music, it looks like one of my favourite New Zealand bands Full Fucking Moon is playing there tonight and again next week.

Mar 5 - KIPL, Melbourne (with Aux Assembly, Dead Boomers, DEAD, Mad Nanna)
    Mar 10 - Gasometer, Melbourne
Mar 12 - Sunshine & Grease, Melbourne (3pm, with Prehistoric Fuckin' Moron, Javier Frisco, Reunion Sacred Ibis, Mad Nanna)
Mar 12 - The Old Bar, Melbourne (with A DJ Called Matt)

I reviewed one of their shows here. Funny stuff.

Tell me about it. It was amazing.

I saw Primus for the first time live and loved them. Shit weather, but the music made up for it. It's good to see they've improved on numerous things too. Beer isn't $8 a can now. :)

I was thinking about it but I don't really have much money atm so I'll probably be going to Ulcerate at the Stag instead.

Fuck me! $10 for a pre-mix! I thought $8.50 was a rip off (and it is).

Yeah - needless to say, I had a very DRY day at Soundwave Brisbane 2011 :p

Speaking of international tours, if anyone has any bands they really want to tour, I encourage you to fire off an email suggesting 'em to these addresses:

soundworks1@bigpond.com (currently bringing Finntroll and Alestorm out here)
frazer@redanttouring.com (currently bringing Nevermore, The Haunted and Motorhead out here)

Names I've thrown their way that I really want to see out here: Tyr, Sabaton, Epica, Iced Earth (even though I saw them all twice on 70000 Tons lol), Delain, Within Temptation, Tarot, Van Canto (they have no instruments - wouldn't cost much to bring out here!!), and Grave Digger.

I'd say Within Temptation would be a goer. The rest, not so much, especially as Iced Earth is pretty much finished as a touring band.

I beg to differ. With Barlow leaving the band (AGAIN!) I think that touring internationally is far more likely.

Part of the reason he left the band was his recognition that bands now more than ever need to tour heavily to be viable economically.

So I have a very very VERY good feeling that Iced Earth will visit Australia when they tour to support their upcoming album *crosses fingers*

Apparently Nightwish were meant to be on 70,000 Tons but couldn't do it due to Anette's pregnancy *growl*

My problem with IE has always been that they seem to have 1 or 2 great songs surrounded by dozens of fillers

That being said, I'd still love to see them live at least once
