It's pretty nuts. Every local metal show in the country is more or less cancelled for 2 months. People are putting the combined lost income somewhere in the vicinity of tens of dollars.
Trying to find any music this weekend (especially since I'm not allowed to watch my Roosters play). Almost every venue appears to be shut down in Sydney. The only venues i have been able to find that are still open (at this stage) are Frankies Pizza (with reduced capacity of 100 people) Hideaway Bar (already capacity 100) Moshpit Bar (already capacity 100) Found another couple of small venues that are still open. Looks like the inner west is the place to be. I have heard about these rooms before but not actually been to a gig there yet. Gasoline Pony Butchers Brew Bar I think i will check out the Butchers Brew Bar tonight
See a lot of tours are getting rescheduled to September. (I think adopting an "It will be all over in 6 months" strategy). I'm not gonna post any here just yet (but if it holds true, September is gonna be busy!)
We had stuff in the works that is supposed to be rescheduled for later in the year. I'm working on the assumption that 2020 is a write-off for anything live and we're planning for 2021 now.
Yeah think that is a very safe bet LT. Sadly I don't see any point of posting any of these rescheduled gigs yet (I see some gigs in other countries have been rescheduled to May. YEAH like THAT is gonna happen).
Yeah, it's basically going to work like things being cancelled for at least 3 - 6 months from now (likely longer), then people will start dragging their shit back together to attempt to rebuild their business (a lot of places that don't go under will be struggling at this point because the income stream would have dried up), and then it'll be a huge backlog of people sorting stuff out and the logistics of that. Venues will start to be booked out months in advance and it'll be super messy getting any kind of real info as people scramble to get things moving again. My guess, if shit doesn't drag out, is we won't see stuff settle down until May next year at the earliest.
I'm optimistic that the lockdown could succeed in containing things here and at least local shows might be able to start back up in a month or so. If there's no gigs for me to go to in April it'll be one hell of a combo breaker as the last month where I didn't go to any was October 2007!
Yeah I think April would be pushing it Bloopy. From what I've seen people are STILL not taking this social distancing seriously One possible brightside is that I reckon in about 6 months time we are gonna see a shit-ton of new releases because any artists that are able to write and record at the moment will have nothing else to do! And for the people that still have jobs, they will probably have a lot of accrued finances by then as they will have had no gigs to spend money on or at
Yeah with any luck there'll be a heaps of albums recorded this year, followed by a heap of tours to support them. Abramelin have a new one coming out soon, which I'm super looking forward to.
Not surprised, but I meant April for New Zealand specifically. Today was our first day of only being allowed out to get groceries and petrol, go to the pharmacy or get a bit of exercise (essential workers excepted). I won't be out and about much to report about whether anyone's not taking it seriously here. I got milk and things from a convenience store today and there were still plenty of people in the suburb walking/cycling - but only with family members, nothing crazy. My parents returned from Melbourne recently and will finish self-isolating from me and everyone by Tuesday, so unless I go to the pharmacy I'll try and leave it to one of them to go out if they don't mind. They're in their 60s but supermarkets are expecting people to use hand sanitiser on entry, and I think I'm severely allergic to it!
Ah New Zealand, yes, good point. Ahern seems to have a far better grip on this situation than Scott Muppet, I mean Morrison does here in Australia.
Chuggy reckons it might be a year before we see internationals back on our shores https://www.smh.com.au/culture/musi...twn6tAFEiI6ZSvXzTqYOUptrUeN2BuTbFDjoM_gjVev5Q
